The vast majority of even military personnel are not trained in police procedure or hostage situations. As a combat veteran I am familiar with combat and have no problem trusting any of my brothers in that situation. Not sure though we are trained to handle hostage situations or bank robberies.Response by PO1 Todd Cousins made Dec 7 at 2015 11:10 PM2015-12-07T23:10:15-05:002015-12-07T23:10:15-05:00SPC Paul Missick1158683<div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>Definately, the threat is apparently growing so we must be vigilant.Response by SPC Paul Missick made Dec 7 at 2015 11:13 PM2015-12-07T23:13:51-05:002015-12-07T23:13:51-05:00SSG Private RallyPoint Member1158706<div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>Who properly trained you? Been in for a while and haven't received any sanctioned army training on how to deal with an active shooter other than online AT level 1 training. We are trained to fight as a fire team, squad, or even as low as a two man sniper team but never as a single element up against a shooter in civilian setting. Just food for thought.<br />But yes, we are trained more adequately in terms of lethal engagement, first aid, and critical thinking in high stress situations thab an average citizen but that doesn't make us first responder ninjas in a shooter situation.<br />Proper training for active shooter situations can be attained at your local NRA gun range and it can get pricey. It is definitely worth the investment if you plan to CCW carrier. I am not referring to the 1 day CC course either. It is a fairly intense 3-5 session lesson covering multiple situations. <br />MPs do receive more comprehensive OJT for active shooters so there's that. I am not familiar with Special Forces training on the matter but I am sure they receive some kind of training on it. Warfare training is different than what we need to be proficient CCW personnel. <br /><br />That's just my 2 cents though.Response by SSG Private RallyPoint Member made Dec 7 at 2015 11:21 PM2015-12-07T23:21:44-05:002015-12-07T23:21:44-05:00SPC Charles Griffith1158991<div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>I think it is incumbent on every American to seek training in basic self defense including the proper use of fire arms. unless you can conceal carry a cop you need to be able to defend YOUR SELF. And even if you are badass enough to do the cop thing remember SCOTUS has ruled that police officers have no responsibility to protect individuals only to the preservation of the peace at large.Response by SPC Charles Griffith made Dec 8 at 2015 3:15 AM2015-12-08T03:15:06-05:002015-12-08T03:15:06-05:00CPL(P) Private RallyPoint Member1159020<div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>I want federal concealed carry for servicemen and vets.Response by CPL(P) Private RallyPoint Member made Dec 8 at 2015 3:42 AM2015-12-08T03:42:47-05:002015-12-08T03:42:47-05:00MSG Private RallyPoint Member1159125<div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>I'm not going to say that everyone carrying CC or LEOSA are suitable to engage a threat competently and safely. Just like in combat you have to think about collateral damage, are you going to do more harm to others than those you intend to stop? Training and the situation ultimately dictates that portion. Now, that being said, you do have the inherent right to defend yourself and as a U.S Soldier the obligation to defend others and you also swore to defend the country, constitution and its people from all threats, both foreign and domestic. That being said, train, train, train, but when LE shows up move out of the way and help in other ways, such as moving casualties, providing self aid or simply consoling people. Just an idea.Response by MSG Private RallyPoint Member made Dec 8 at 2015 5:48 AM2015-12-08T05:48:47-05:002015-12-08T05:48:47-05:002015-12-07T23:03:01-05:00
