For them I can see a difference in pay. For the temporary laterals, CPL and 1SG, I can see a specialty pay. None however should be permanent as now, CSMs can be reverted to SGM (by DA), and CPL, 1SG is simply a local decision. CPLs and 1SGs make more than SPCs and MSGs now (unless the MSG is a Det SGT, which is really a 1SG without the title), Team Leaders make more thannon-leading SGTs, PSGs and Staff NCOICs make more than SFCs hiding out in a G3, etc.
Provides incentive to go take those more demanding roles. I can't count the number of times I watched SFCs turn down challenging roles with 3-4 years left until retirement. They no longer wanted or considered promotion and therefore didn't eant the added burden. Even seen SFCs on staff or in orderly rooms while SSGs are filling PSG slots. That has got to be one of the worst jobs in the Army. SGTs and above treat them like garbage and pass off all the worst duties to them. Certain NECs get a bonus based on the billet and has to be recertified by the command each year. Most common is for the Command Master Chief / Chief of the Boat / or Command Senior Chief.

Certain Officer jobs also come with a bonus, but it varies based on your community (aviation / surface / specwar, etc). But as a CPL I do all the work of the SGT to include appraisals, corrective actions, team Lead a fire team and conduct NCO training time for my guys, run lanes...etc. But I look at it as time spent learning my skills before taking my stripes, so it does not bother me. I know come end of November when I finish BLC, I will get my stripes and my raise. All part of the process of growth and development.
