Should the NSA's ability to collect Meta Data be reversed?

Now that we have been hit by terrorists.....should the NSA be given the ability to collect meta data once again?

It may make sense Sgt Kelli Mays. Since a Federal Judge nixed it, Congress would need to pass a bill with specific goals, limits and oversight in order for it to pass muster with the courts so that civil libertarians who would want to nix it don't succeed.

Won't do much good. Yes they may get SOME valuable Intel, but thanks to the media everyone knows about it. They'll just change their TTP's.

It's a back and forth game, and IMO were coming up on the short end of it.

How is it that the French authorities were able to 'follow the trail' and make hundreds of arrests and confiscate ordnance so quickly after the Paris massacre, and assist Belgium in conducting their own follow-up investigations and raids--and they don't have the NSA? Or do they profile?

While the NSA was collecting the data, they missed the terrorist couple in CA. How can this be when that is the primary reason they state they were collecting the data? All the money they spent and it was a colossal failure.

"Meta Data" or Traffic Analysis as it was called when I took the course. I have no problem with it. Not that much "Personal" data can be gleaned from that. You can make a lot of inferences about the Network, Organization, Chain of Command, Order of Battle, Who is the Top Dog and Who are Soldiers but that is about it. If they want to great. If not it's use is very limited.

With the current availability of communications encryption, metadata is the only way we have to track terrorist communications traffic; it will give NSA hubs to investigate further and it will not inconvenience the general public. I think the civil libertarians got a bit paranoid on this issue, and that endangers us all.
