Should the Government be allowed to step in on the subject of sex? What do you think about having Sex Education mandatory in schools?

Promiscuous sex among young people is occurring more now and at younger ages than when i went to school and Sex Ed was in health class. It does show a trend that without it they do more on their own.

It is wise and necessary for the success of America to be educated and mentored on values, morales and beliefs of sex education in school. Great start is at the beginning of school to start the education process.

Just one more point that the parents of America have dropped the ball. Sex education SHOULD be taught in the HOME by the parents. Unfortunately, the parents have given to the State the platform of teaching the child about such things. All I know is that since the State has started doing this, the levels of illegitimacy have gone through the roof. Kids that are so young that they don't know what to call their genitals darn shure do not need to know how to use them.

"If" we are going to teach Health and Biology in schools, we need to teach the related subject of Sexual Education.

I'm a firm believer than parents should be able to opt-out of Sex-Ed. However, Health & Biology is part of the baseline education we teach in this country, and as such, it needs to be accurate and complete (to a degree). Sex-Ed is part of that.

Add in the risk management aspects, and schools become the "best" place to teach it. It becomes a common message, as opposed to 50M~ different messages taught by laymen.

I am of two minds about this. One....the kids are going to find out about it prior to any parenting (As the parent of two teenagers, 1 girl and 1 boy) so....it's kinda 'late'.....and two, the 'school' taking the place of the parent really rubs me the wrong way. On the other side....it does give the kids a "dispassionate" party's view on 'what sex' is..... In my personal experience though, it embarrassed the kids so much that I doubt they learned anything. It DID however force me and my wife to have "The Discussion's" with both of our kids. So.....while I really disapprove of the school/state getting involved in a, in my opinion Parental issue, it did act as a forceable reminder for me to actually have that educational discussion.

When I was in Junior High (1959-1961, we had a sex education class. To the boys, it more of a joke. To the girls, it was embarrassing. I agree with SSG Roger Ayscue, sex education should start at home. Looking back, my parents never talked to me about it. I learned OTJ. I talked to my sons about sex. They knew more than I did. I never talked about it with my daughter. Sex is a touchy subject, if taught in school. If the government forces it, a notice should be sent to the parents, where they can agree their child should participate, or they do not want their child in a sex education class. If you look back, sex ed was taught in the 40's. That's my take on it.

I think it should be mandatory. Maybe there will be less teenage pregnancies if they know how much it will affect their lives.

This was kind of an embarrassing moment for me. I went to talk to my son about sex ed, that whole father and son talk kind of thing that I had rehearsed in my head, however, he informs me that he took sex ed in school and even passed the test. I felt a little silly after.

At least a basic understanding is a must. Some topics that may be considered obscenity should be left out.

Honestly, the kid's gonna find out anyway.

It they teach it as poorly as they do other subjects we will be in a world of hurt. I don't need people with agendas on sex teaching my kids about it. They end up teaching them how to have sex rather than about it. There is too much focus on having it and not enough on the risks and accountabilities. Perhaps they can put the Sex Ed class right after the firearms training class.

Teaching basic biology on reproduction is fine.

I believe they should be both taught at school and at home. I learned about sex by teachers in a Catholic school. Who'da though?
