Calling it OCP is the same thing as RC Cola compared to Coke. Same damned thing, really, with minor changes. I was too young to suffer the change over from BDU to ACU, but I remember my brother having to grouse about it. Truth be told, if I had to choose between BDU/DCU, UCP, and MultiCam, I would stick with multicam. I have done a fair amount of airsoft wearing ACU's or Multicam where the terrain changes from "Desert" to "Urban" to "Forest" all during the same match and the irritating thing of it is, the Multicam worked in all three, whereas the ACUs just kinda... stuck out. Where it works, it works fantastically. Rest of the time, it just screams "target" at me.

As for new patterns, well... Personally, I don't know where they would look for them. I'd rather the gov buy ready patterns after they are made than invest in developing several. We have the Military Industrial Complex for a reason. I know it's just a cry from the bottom, but the OCP/deployment multicams are a favorite among a lot of soldiers, As well as both functional and professional in appearance.
At a minimum, they make soldiers look good and the army is all about appearances. Yes, a ton of money was spent, but that's no reason to settle with the terrible uniform that we currently have. Spend a little more to field it completely and be done with it.
Response by SSG Private RallyPoint Member made Feb 28 at 2014 4:50 AM 2014-02-28T04:50:39-05:00 2014-02-28T04:50:39-05:00 CPT Private RallyPoint Member 134284

With the knowledge of the new selection of uniform, I would say that we should have worked on a better licensing agreement with Crye to continue to utilize OCP and make it the permanent pattern, considering we chose the joint developed predecessor by selecting Scorpion. They now have to start the industrial machine printing the new fabrics, license out the pattern to other vendors for aftermarket gear, start getting uniforms and OCIE into production. If they would have selected multicam, they would have just had to negotiate the licensing of the pattern since production has already been rolling. This not only will probably cost more money, but take much longer to get to the troops.
