Should Service Members should be armed during the duty day?

I think it should be job contingent to be honest. Also, definitely needs to be contingent on current weapons qualifications for that weapon system.

I certainly think that those Secret Service members who are on duty protecting the President, Vice President and other VIPS should be armed SSG Private RallyPoint Member.
Obviously prior to being armed they should be thoroughly trained on all weapons systems they would be required to use.
Those Secret Service members who are not on some type of personal or group security detail do not necessarily need to be armed especially if their duty day is confined to an internal office.

As terrorists infiltrate our borders and seemingly benign citizens become radicalized, a military uniform is a target of opportunity, isn't it? Is it fair to hang a target on someone and then deny them the right or ability to defend themselves?

Absolutely! We have been trained in the usage of firearms and know the consequences if the firearm is discharged without it being as a defensive reaction.

I agree with CPT Jack Durish. Like it or not, the terrorists have made each and every one of us Servicemen/women a target. They've also made our families a target. We deserve the opportunity to defend ourselves. We already have the RIGHT to do so.

20 years ago I would have questioned the logic of this question, but given the current state of affairs I am wondering why we are not better protecting our uniformed service members.

Military members are being targeted and police officers are being hunted.

LTC Stephen F. discussed the training of the secret service, why cannot we introduce an enhanced weapons training program and arm our soldiers?

Yes. Only the people that are out of touch with the "boots on the ground" guys think we shouldn't. This is an old topic. I doubt I will ever see it in my career.

I could see SSG and above on the enlisted side or Captain and above on the Officer side. Last thing you need is a post getting shut down because some idiot misplaced their firearm while wondering post. If it happens during a deployment, it will happen in Garrison.
