It looks political to me. This administration held his court martial over his head for years to keep him quiet about Benghazi.
Gen Petraeus recently testified in closed session about that attack and now we see this.
Do the math.

SCPO (Join to see) - Was He really an E-4 infantry Squad Leader in VN, as his bio. claims? Bn XO was on leave, Bn Commander went on emergency leave, I was on orders for three days as the Bn Cdr, but this the first time I have mentioned it. I do not claim to have commanded a battalion, even though this a true story. XO terminated his leave two days early, to get the command time and to snake me. LOL!

Downvote for name calling. Major this is not a grade-school playground. Leave the name calling off the board.

Well, then Sec. Carter should investigate Sec. Clinton, on this same basis. Both she and GEN Petraeus mishandled classified information. Am I right?

Capt Seid Waddell - Just because she says they aren't classified doesn't make it so. She is guilty of course we need to go to trial first. But she needs to be at least indicted before she has the ability to slide by.

Maj Werner Hindrichs, you are wrong. Guilt is an objective fact that occurs when the deed is done. The law must treat the accused as innocent until proven guilty, but the guilt is attached to the deed and not the trial.
It sounds to me as if you are wishing it not to be so in spite of all of the evidence of guilt that has been presented.

SFC Ernest Thurston, this is true, but with the current politicized Justice Department it is highly unlikely that she will be indicted or charged regardless of the evidence presented. Remember Fast and Furious and the IRS targeting of Obama's political enemies.

Benghazi committee promises final report by summer
WASHINGTON — Nearly two years after it was created, the House Benghazi Committee is plowing ahead — interviewing witnesses, reviewing documents and promising a final report "before summer" that is certain to have repercussions for Democrat Hillary Clinton's bid for the presidency.

I won't be standing up to defend someone who mishandled classified information while having an adulterous relationship. If the SECDEF has the authority to adjust the punishment, then so be it.

Cpl Franz Buhlmann - Petraeus pleaded guilty in Charlotte on April 23, 2015. It wasn't "years ago" when the original sentence was handed out; it was "months ago". To put it into context, it was one pregnancy ago. That's not a long time in a bureaucracy the size of the DoD.

He pleaded to a misdemeanor crime and was punished. I do believe this all came about after his retirement. If his behaviors or acts occurred while he was on AD, let the chips fall as appropriate. Now if he was misbehaving as a retired Soldier and political appointee the civilian side needs to step up. I do recall GEN Franks being reprimanded for allowing his wife to be present during classified briefings on aircraft while traveling with him. I think this is a club that the POS in the White House is hanging over his head until Hillary loses the election..........If you lay down with dogs you get fleas, he should never have joined OBozo's clique after he retired! Just the $.02 of a bitter man clinging to his guns and Bible!

SPC James Harsh - and you base that statement on what evidence? The man violated his oath, and had an affair - committed adultery - which is a violation of the UCMJ and yet he is "more of a patriot then most everyone on RP" - so by your words, a patriot is someone who violates his oath and commits a crime.

If they didn't do it then, they shouldn't be able to come back a retroactively reduce him now for something that happened several years ago. He had already retired at the time. A retiree's pay cannot be reduced/withdrawn unless the person is convicted under the Hiss Act (5 U.S. Code, Section 8311-8322.) By all accounts, Petraeus’s leak caused no damage to US national security. Therefore, he should not be subject to a reduction in retirement due to violation of the Hiss Act.

This is a play to further drag Petreaus through the mud on the eve of a Capitol Hill appearance. It doesn't harm him financially, only his prestige is threatened. It also gives the Democrats on the Benghazi Special Committee some red meat to question him on while he's there.

No, General Petraeus has served his country honorably and I think his entire career should be taken into consideration. While I consider General Petraeus a friend, albeit a very, very distant one, I feel he was only thinking with the wrong head. He has suffered enough from his indiscretions and I believe he has already paid a high price for his indiscretions. There have been many before him who have done far worse than he has and have suffered far less penalties than he has. He is a patriot, true and true.

I'd love to see that Sgt Richard Buckner. She is a lying no good SOB. I don't know the country's fascination with her and her also no good husband. And from what I have read, she does not respect the military and the heroes who have protected her and her family. There is a former Secret Service agent who is writing a tell all book about her which does not portray her in a good light. I suspect he's telling the truth in his writings!

First off I disagree with that first statement I don't believe his entire career should be taken into account, it should be about the incident alone. The longer you are in and the more senior you become you should be setting the example and mentoring the men and women below you. Bottom line He knew better and throughout his career I'm sure he doled out punishment for similar violations. I would be more lenient on a soldier who didn't know better verses a soldier who thought he was "above the law"
Second I personally don't feel it has any merit simply because he was already retired from the army.

You make a very valid point MSG (Join to see) which I failed to consider. I think the classified stuff was his personal schedules and not national defense information. I do not think he ever thought he was above the law although there are plenty of people out there who certainly feel that way. All the best!

That sounds like PC vindictiveness to me. Do you suppose it was due to his Benghazi testimony in secure sessions? This administration held his court-martial over his head for years to keep him quiet.

General Patreus is a soldier, held to a higher standard. He should know better than to share classified information period. As for Benghazi, politicians are all cheats and liars. It all starts at the top when it comes to failing, and I myself believe everyone involved in the mishandling of it deserve to pe in prison.

Of course it's just an educated guess, but I it sounds like the current administration is trying to keep him from speaking out or publishing anything that might affect the upcoming Presidential elections.
