Should Rallypoint expand to allow Law Enforcement members?

I want to see Rallypoint gain more members. I think opening up membership to the law enforcement community is a good way to do it without disturbing the integrity of the website in a major way. Lets get to 2 million!

No this is an online community for military members, past and present. The beauty of RallyPoint, is despite our differences; we all have one commonality and that is service in the military. To change that would be to change the basic reason we have worked so hard on this site.

Law enforcement can already join as citizens, however, the intent of this is for military not law enforcement.

As a Veteran, and LEO, I can attest that LEOs are pretty much at war now and can use all the support available.

The law enforcement community is not the same as the military community I would say that it is best to leave RP as it is and not make it for everyone like Facebook.

I am retired Military and retired LEO, I prefer RP as a military website. While many similarities exist in the personalities, job demands, and stress, this becomes a slippery slope argument. Firemen will be next, followed by Paramedics, Dispatchers, Emergency Room nurses and docs, etc
etc. Not all at once, but slowly, one group a year. Now, the RP staff can start LEO website just like RP and it has the potential to be just as or maybe even more successful, who knows. But let them have a run at it.

Are we trying to add Law Enforcement just for numbers or is there some type of substance that can be added by allowing them to join? If its just for numbers, I am with everyone else and would like for it to just stay a military community.

I have tremendous respect for LEO's, however, do not feel that they should be included in RP as RP is meant to be a forum for military and ex-military to seek advice, find employment, and form connections. While LEO's are similar to military in many respects, there's enough differences that I feel it would be overall detrimental to the RP community to expand membership to them. I do feel that a site of similar format for emergency responders would be beneficial (if one doesn't already exist), however, think it should take the form of an entirely different website.

No. This site is for military folks. Even though they are similar professions, there are vast differences between the two. Besides there are plenty of LE folks already on this site.

No. This website is fine as is with membership for active duty and veterans. along with civilian supporters and potential recruits. We should not add law enforcement just to get to 2 million members.

I work in the Law Enforcement community and I would say no. I enjoy the shared connection I can have with people on here because of the shared military experience. It does not matter if the branch is different, there is a level of shared commonality that I don't get often at my civilian job.

And besides, the site is called RallyPoint. I can't think of many people in law enforcement (besides former military) who do use or who would know the term. Not to mention the shear boatload of acronyms that are common, even simple ones like ETS.

I am both, retired Military Veteran of 23 years service, and a Retired High County Sheriff after 18 years of service as a LEO. I loved both occupations, but they were both very different. I inject my comments about Law enforcement on RP where I think it is appropriate, but not very often as I am not a member of this site for that purpose. I say NO, and I say that not out of disrespect for my LEO brothers, but because the two groups may seem similar, but in actuality they are very different in so many respects.

I served in the corps and in Law enforcement. When on patrol in the jungle or in the streets I always knew what partners I could count on. The law enforcement community is Para- Military I wore both uniforms with pride, and just served different roles. No matter your views there are bad soldiers, bad people and bad cops, but over all they love this country and are trying to do the right thing. When others are running from gun fire they are running in Just like you would do. Remember when your family is in danger and you are not there to protect them they will show up and they also will risk their lives to protect your child. No matter what you believe if you look deep in your heart you know they too are warriors. They too bleed and cry when they lose a partner in combat.

I'd rather see the numbers stay the same or even decrease and keep the site primarily for military. As someone below said, quality over quantity. I fail to see the upside of reaching 2 million members.

Not unless they are prior or current military, as well. Secondly, I personally have not and will not encourage my friends who are both. The RP community is hardly what I would say to be "law enforcement" friendly. That is, of course, from experience, though, with notable exceptions.

No, they don't have the same focus. Those who came up with the concept for RallyPoint would do well to tweak their code and start a similar site for people associated with law enforcement (Prison Guards, Dispatchers, Patrolmen, Sheriffs, School Safety Officers, Detectives, Forensics, SWAT, Undercover, DEA, Border Patrol, Fish and Wildlife Game Wardens, Park Rangers, etc.)

Civilians are already allowed on... how would LE be any different? Or are you just talking about giving them a special identifier? Like the "V" "SM" "R"? They could get "LE" and then we could also add "FD" for Fire Department folks, "PS" for Postal Service, "EO" for Elected Officials... The list of identifiers could go forever... I'm not sure how special tags influence more people to get on board.

I think this is a military site and I would like to keep it this way. Numbers are just that....numbers and the more of them doesn't make a site any better.

No. Just think of it in the reverse. If all of us military RPers moved in on an LEO website, would we really be part of that community and provide value added from an LEO perspective? I don't think so, and I'd guess that the LEOs would feel like their website was being overrun and diluted with military types. Different communities with different cultures, experiences and concerns.

I agree with those that have said no. I spent 12 years in the Army and have been a LEO for 20. There are places for LEO's to interact already and I like this community having the military bond. While law enforcement is paramilitary, there is a huge difference in function, experience and common experience.

I would have to say no, keep it as a military site. I already feel like “a fish out of water,” since leaving the military seven years ago. If we have other groups come in, even tho it would be interesting, this fish would have to leave the pond.

i would recommend that you create a seperate "point" for LEOs
they deserve the brotherhood but not many of them have been where we have been
and they have been where we have not
