I think the government needs to have one job as far as the military is concerned. Give us the mission, and then step back and let us get it done.

The military needs oversight from Congress. That is the way it works. Some ideas are good others are for shit.

They need to stick to there field of business and be able to let our military do the job we are trained and Constantly get trained for. Is like they don't trust our leadership basically saying we need to stay on top of them because they can't manage them selves. Like really we are professionals at our jobs and we are highly trained and discipline.

Let's turn the table how would they feel if we micromanage there political affairs and careers how do you think they would react.

I long for the day when those we elect hold themselves to the same standards they hold the military to -- seeing as they direct the military. Leadership by example. What a novel idea!

Political types need to outline the nations strategic mission. If it involves military action, they need to then sit back and let the professionals handle the mission as identified.

How does Congress fit into this at all really outside of declaring war and providing our funding? Isn't the President the Commander in Chief?
Or are we talking about their ability to alter lines in US Code, Title 10, 32, etc?

The military can only win battles, politicians decide who wins the war. Unfortunately, some of them seem to prefer losing wars!

I think politicians do provide some oversight. I may not agree with executive foreign policy, but I would be concerned should our Generals not have a check and balance system.

Equal opportunity means that the standards are the same for everyone, and if a female or minority can't meet those minimum standards, they don't get the job. It really is that simple and it blows my mind that people can't comprehend that.

While I can see the point of the 0-6, at the same time I'm wondering how he would implement it. Would there be a quota system involved?

I remember reading an article a while back discussing the lack of minorities in the combat arms officer career field, and it stated that this was a result of them not selecting that particular field, not a conspiracy by white guys.

Now if it's revealed that there is a conspiracy by white guys to keep minorities out of elite units, then by all means Congress should step in. If not, they need to STFU.
