Kasich is part of the GOP "Not Trump" strategy. As Rubio is beating states up not to release his delegates, Kasich is just a piece of the effort to get to the second ballot. I'm sure the GOP leadership told him if he ever wants to see the light of day again in this party, do as we say.

Because all it takes is a slip up by one of the other two candidates, and he is in the running. It doesn't cost him much to stay in, so why not. Then there's the brokered convention.

He should have quit months ago and the GOP should have excluded him from the debates. He will never quit and thinks he will be handed the nomination at a contested convention

The history of brokered conventions is fascinating. What happened before is not necessarily an indicator of what is going to happen because the rules are written for the convention at the convention, usually. If the Kasich delegates are Kasich people and accept his leadership, he essentially becomes a super delegate who can drop a significant, possibly decisive block of votes on someone's table. That is leverage.

He should have given up before Ohio. He mathematically couldn't win then and was/is only in the race to try to stop the majority of the voters from getting their candidate. I think the thing that infuriates me the most is the GOP blatant attempt to disregard the American people. Who the hell do they think they are? Clearly mistakes were made when voting for these particular politicians and "The People" will need to correct that. I am sure it sounds as if I am a Trump supporter, however I feel very strongly that it's beside the point. Any time the Fed tries to invalidate the basis of the whole system, something is very wrong. There's perhaps a little to much power been self awarded to Federal Government and they need to be taken down a peg or 10.

He's liable to get the nod if there's a brokered/contested RNC in July. I'm assuming that's what he's holding out for.

Two things:
1. Kasich causes a division in delegates that makes the arithmetic for Cruz or Trump to get the nomination very difficult. The RNC likes that.
2. Kasich has the chance to be kingmaker, if not king, in the event of a contested convention. His odds of walking out of Cleveland on the Republican ticket are quite good.

As an aside, I think the odds are almost as good that the Democrats have an eventful convention as well. No way they nominate Bernie, and to satisfy his voracious supporters he might end up as VP. Hillary is a deeply flawed candidate with a not so small chance of having charges referred to a prosecutor. Watch out for an Elizabeth Warren or Joe Biden surprise at the convention.
