Should homeless Veterans come before refugees? What are your thoughts on this patch?

I'm sure we would all agree that it SHOULD be this way, however, I'm sure we all KNOW how it will really be. More social handouts to folks who won't contribute a dime but will riot until we give in to their demands on treatment and compensation. IMO of course...

I agree 100%, but the government, be it Democrat or Republican, honestly does not care about veterans. They may claim to, but all I've personally seen so far from politicians concerning veteran's rights is lip service.

Seriously. We have the most resources in the world, bar none. We should be able to do both simultaneously.

Disagree. We service members have years during our contracts to get our act together, not to mention free transition programs, resume classes, free college, interview coaching, job placement preference and free civilian credentialing opportunities. The refugees are far less culpable for their situations...

I agree with the point, but we can do both. Helping refugees doesn't mean that they are granted citizenship. Most European countries and the American immigration system have a non citizenship permission for temporary residence.

A refugee could be a great person, with a family, established career and a record of helping others. Maybe it all went away because of ISIS. Then we have "some" homeless vets that just make bad choices constantly. Not every veteran is an angel. I think we forget that we are all people. If you had a family member that kept screwing up and was homeless, does that mean you wouldn't help someone else that came along?

SGT Neil Chandler As a nation we need to address the issue of homelessness period. Homelessness in and of itself is a social symptom not a cause, we need to look at what the causes of homelessness are and address those issues. In America the top things that create homelessness are:
Alcohol/Drug Abuse, Mental Illness, Family structure (Dysfunctional head of households), and poverty (affordable housing unavailable).

The United States government is on the verge of a shutdown because the asshats in Washington can't work to a compromise. We have enough problems domestically that bringing in refugees should be at the bottom of the priority list. Veterans served this nation. IF anyone is going to be taken in and housed by the US, it should be our own people. Veterans should be at the top of that list. After we have taken care of the homeless veterans, then we can take care of our homeless civilian population. Then if there is anything left in the coffers, we can take in a refugee or two. That is not going to happen. It does not make the US look good to the rest of the world if we take care of our own problems first. We are daddy to the world. We take them in when they are lost, we punish them when they get out of line. We give them an allowance in the form of foreign aid. Too bad we don't have anyone in Washington with the balls to stand up and act on taking care of our people before we try to solve the world's problems.

Of course our homeless vets should come before refugees. I am not saying we shouldn't help, but we need to take care of our own house before we open the door to outsiders.

We have an immigration problem that can't seem to be solved. Lots of illegal immigrants that shouldn't be here. If these folks were sent home taking on refugees wouldn't be a problem.
Homelessness in our Veteran population is a growing problem that is getting out of control. Our political leaders will utilize this situation ( and many others) to polarize their campaigns in hopes to attract the veteran vote.
The real solution won't come from Washington DC but from within our ranks of veterans. The homeless were our battle buddies, our friends who fell off the radar or that family who just lost their house.
In some way, we all have an ability to help with this. Without looking to our government to fix it for us. What can you do?

Where can I get that patch? The US has always been bad at taking care of it's own IMO. If you look at the Veterans piece, the Poverty piece and the number citizens (and I mean Citizens) that can't get health care, or have even enough money to feed their children, then we wonder why. But with that you see the number of Citizens, that are the same way..."I don't want to work, so pay me." Lest we not forget the number of Generational families that have been receiving Social Assistance...oh...forever and have done nothing to earn it, except have more kids. These type of Social systems, should have term limits for those that can work. And I agree with those few states that require drug testing to received benefits (or as they feel Entitlements). But really, you will be hard pressed to see any of the Big Boys and Girls on the Hill trying to change that...why? Because it is all about votes.

Seriously, where can I get that patch...it would definitely go on my Vest.

Im with the AMVETS and been getting emails if i could get these to sell at meetings. I like it myself and a way ro get the message out id veterans want to wear it let me know if they are being sold

I think it is a shitty patch that makes an issue out of a non-issue. It's like saying cats should come before tomatoes. The two have nothing to do with one another and are not comparable. This is just more garbage information designed to encourage xenophobia, tribalism, and fake patriotism. Think about it...who is this patch talking to? Who puts refugees before homeless Vets? How so? It is designed to foster hate and division.
