Should America open its doors to refugees from Hong Kong?

This is the heart of a question asked in a article appearing on Bloomberg.

"Secretary of State Michael Pompeo on Wednesday certified that Hong Kong no longer warrants special treatment under U.S. law. It has enjoyed that status since 1997, when China agreed to respect the territory’s autonomy and liberal system of courts and elections for 50 years. The certification, required under a law passed last year in response to China’s crackdown in Hong Kong, followed Beijing’s announcement that it would unilaterally impose a national security law on the city-state..."

As long as they do it legally I have no problem, with any one coming to this country. If they want to live free I would not blame them.

Yes, but..... Get in line.
I am in no way saying that I condone what China is doing, or that many Hong Kongers (Hong Kongians?) could not / should not qualify as refugees. But there are a whole f*ckton of people trying to come here as refugees from FAR worse situations. Syria and Central America come to mind. If we have room / resouces for a flood of folks (or even 100 folks) from Hong Kong, then we should have done already used that room / those resources on folks from Syria, El Salvador, or Columbia.

No, I do not want to get involved in what China wants to do with Hong Kong. That is going to get ugly and if anyone has a leg in that fight, it is the UK.

I say yes, but again, get in line, go through the process we require all other refugees, claim asylum in the first safe western nation you enter, and do not break immigration laws to pick and choose where you want to go ( for example, the current migration caravan breaking down the border fence in southern Mexico, and illegally entering and traversing Mexico to get to the US border)
