No, Sgt Tom Cunnally she was found guilty of first degree capital murder of the father of her children. The fact that she was the birth-mother is irrelevant.

ATLANTA — Two influential voices have joined the chorus of those asking that Kelly Renee Gissendaner be allowed to live. Gissendaner, convicted of recruiting her boyfriend to kill her husband, is set to be executed Tuesday in Jackson.

Her execution has been postponed since March when officials cited problems with the lone drug that would be used for the lethal injection.

Since then there have been vigils and rallies asking the state to spare Gissendaner. Her children have made a video asking for mercy for their mother. Then Saturday former State Corrections Deputy Director Vanessa O’Donnell and Norman Fletcher, former chief justice of the Georgia Supreme Court, joined the effort, asking the Georgia Board of Pardons and Paroles for clemency.

Gissendaner, the only woman on death row in Georgia, was sentenced in 1998 for recruiting Gregory Owen to kill her husband, Douglas Gissendaner.

For background.

The one thing that bothers me about this, is that the "actual murderer" (the one who killed her husband) plead down, while she will be given Death Row. This doesn't "feel" like Justice.

Sgt Tom Cunnally, I do not purport to be an expert on trial law or to know judicial law that well, but she’s served 17 years, no? She did not actually commit the crime, yes? Her three children have forgiven her, no? She has many witnesses of her remorse and her former Warden is willing to testify that the state parole board chairman, James Donald, promised her clemency, no? So, why are we still talking about her impending execution?

Sgt Tom Cunnally was the woman thinking about her children dealing with the death of their father when she had her side piece kill him? Kill her. Make sure those kids get excellent therapy, there is no way that this doesn't fuck up a child in the head.

Absolutely not! Women want equality, so why should 'sex' matter in criminal sentencing? Although, I've yet to see a woman get similar punishment as a male when its 'teacher vs student' sex involved. The females always get off light and the men get hammered. Where's the equality in sentencing. Why should the man get 10 to 20 or more and the women get 1, 3, or 5. She's just as guilty, so sentence her like a man.

Her hired gun pled out so he wouldn't get the needle and testify against her. I don't care that he gets to live.
She, on the other hand, deserves everything she gets tonight. She could have pled out too, if only she had had the ovarian fortitude to kill her husband instead of farming it out.

Sgt Tom Cunnally - She should not be spared solely because of her sex. She was tried, convicted and sentenced to death.

If she is spared because of her sex, you will see a lot more "Bruce Jenners" on Death Row, claiming to suddenly realize that they are women. OK ... That was said "tongue in cheek" and I realize this is no joking matter, however, in this age of men claiming to be women, women claiming to be men, Caucasians claiming to be Black, etc., etc., I would not put it past anybody to try that to save their lives on Death Row.

ATLANTA -- A federal judge Monday morning denied a request to stay the execution of Kelly Gissendaner, Georgia's only woman on Death Row, who is scheduled to die Tuesday evening for her part in the murder of her husband.

Gissendaner's attorneys immediately moved to appeal U.S. District Judge Thomas W. Thrash's ruling, in which he refused to reconsider an earlier lawsuit declaring lethal injection a form of cruel and unusual punishment.

Gissendaner was sentenced to death in November 1998 for recruiting her boyfriend, Gregory Bruce Owen, to kill her husband.

Owen, who stabbed Douglas Gissendaner to death in February 1997, is serving a life sentence and will be up for parole in eight years. He testified against Gissendaner, telling a jury how the mother of three carefully planned her husband's death.

If she is without a doubt guilty, and was found guilty by the jury, carry on. Not sure why it takes several years of the tax payers money to feed and shelter people on death row. The sooner the sentence is carried out the better. Save the tax payers the expense.

While it is disheartening that two children will be losing their mother the fact that she hired some one to kill their father makes me question her maternal instincts. Galatians 6:7 says “A man reaps what he sows” - just happens to be a woman in this case.

ATLANTA (AP) — The Georgia Board of Pardons and Paroles plans to meet to consider new information in support of clemency for the lone woman on the state's death row.

Kelly Renee Gissendaner is set for execution Tuesday at 7 p.m. The 47-year-old was convicted of murder in the February 1997 slaying of her husband. She conspired with her lover, who stabbed Douglas Gissendaner to death.

A parole board statement said the board's members have reviewed a second request from Gissendaner's lawyers to reconsider their February decision denying clemency. The release says they're holding a meeting at 11 a.m. to gather additional information from Gissendaner supporters.

Two of Gissendaner's three children previously addressed the board. A lawyer for Gissendaner said her oldest son now wants to ask the board to spare her life.

She's dead so it's a null issue now. But based on everything I've read and my own personal opinion yes she deserved to die.

I for one am against prison overcrowding. One way to reduce this is to repeal sentences for people convicted of victimless crimes such as drug use.
Another way is to speed up the death row process. How many resources are used and how much money is spent on a single death row inmate who can sometimes sit on death row for 17 years (as Gissendaner did)?

NOPE, anybody, anyone proven without a doubt to have committed murder, regardless of age, gender, mental health or whatever else Criminal defense lawyers can come up with, ought to be put away.
