SPC Private RallyPoint Member4910951<div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>why am i asking this question? well it bothers me when I get different higher ranks telling me that i should address a warrant officer 4 as a CW4 in an email. That it's NOT proper to start with chief, sir nor ma'am and that goes with E-8. That in every email i must address a SFC, SGT, SSG, MSG,... go on... I never had an issue with any of the master sgt until now. Is there a regulation that states that i must type and address every higher rank by their rank. <br />Please someone help me, this whole military life is honeslty kicking my butt. In the civilian a Sir or Ma'am was fine, a proper welcoming was enough but not in the military. A soldier has to go above and beyond. <br />please someone elaborate me on this matter because I'm extremely confused. I had a previous chief who was OK.. with chief or sir and now i have a new chief that i need to address him with CW4 and is only him.Should a WO1, WO2, WO3, WO4, WO5 be address in an email by chief, sir or ma'am or with the exact rank?2019-08-13T08:39:47-04:00SPC Private RallyPoint Member4910951<div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>why am i asking this question? well it bothers me when I get different higher ranks telling me that i should address a warrant officer 4 as a CW4 in an email. In fact, if you call some chief, you will not like the outcome. The response will often be"Do I look like a Navy Petty Officer to you?" or the also famous "Do you see a feather headdress on me?" If you really want to get a WO1 spooled up, address them as warrant officer junior grade. That is always a fun time. <br /><br />Mr. or Ms., Mrs. etc. is the official way to address them. Such as "Good morning Mr. Smith." Using Sir or Ma'am is also acceptable. If they want to be addressed as CW4 Smith, that is acceptable too and it sounds like it will cause you less heartache. One thing I learned as a private was that there is the right way, the Army way, and the way that keeps me from getting yelled at. I usually used the latter.Response by LCDR Keith Trepanier made Aug 13 at 2019 11:19 AM2019-08-13T11:19:20-04:002019-08-13T11:19:20-04:00CW4 Craig Urban4911516<div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>Chief or mamResponse by CW4 Craig Urban made Aug 13 at 2019 12:04 PM2019-08-13T12:04:03-04:002019-08-13T12:04:03-04:00CSM Richard StCyr4911737<div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>Look at AR 25-50, preparing and managing correspondence, Table C-4. Go with that.<br /><br />For Male warrant officers you do not already know, addressing one as Mr. Walker (for example) or Sir is not at all wrong. You can't go wrong doing that. For female warrant officers you do not already know, Ms. Lastname (since you may not know if they prefer Mrs. Lastname or if they're even married), is the way to go.<br /><br />If a CWO tells you "It's okay to call me Chief and I prefer it", go with that.Response by CW3 Private RallyPoint Member made Aug 16 at 2019 3:12 PM2019-08-16T15:12:51-04:002019-08-16T15:12:51-04:00SGT Private RallyPoint Member4923445<div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>wo2/3/4 ETC is not proper. it would be CW2/CW3/4/5.
