Should a Company Commander and 1SG, who are perceived to be in a relationship, be investigated?

It appears that the original posted question was re-worded. Therefore I will re-word my answer. Perception can be a serious killer for anyone's career. I would send all concerns, and recommend all others that are concerned, to send said concerns up the Chain of Command and Support. Have the SLs and PSGs take it to the 1sg while the PLs take it to the Commander. Without actual factual evidence, all that will be caused is massive headaches for EVERYONE.

Absolutely investigation should be conducted and if any substantiating evidence is developed both should be prosecuted under UCMJ with punishment as detrimental to their careers as their decisions have been for others. Immediate reassignment, removal for cause, relieved of command, separation after reduction and an appropriate review of detrimental reports submitted for other service members and administrative removal of subjective reports that led to unfavorable actions.

What do you KNOW and what do you THINK YOU KNOW? If there is even a hint of impropriety it should be investigated. I know of a case where the CO and XO were having an inappropriate relationship and both are now out of the Army. Just be careful about how you perceive the situation. Rumor and innuendo can be dangerous.

What does preaching NCOPD have to do with inappropriate relationships? Unless the class is on Fraternization, Perception, and/or on Inappropriate relationships. You probably need to go to the Battalion level so an inquiry can get started if there is proof of the inappropriate relationship with your Company Command team. If you know of it, then it is your responsibility to report it.

As stated below there are avenues to address this other than dropping hints and waiting for something to happen. If you are sure then report it and let the investigation begin. If all you have is unproven PERCEPTIONS then nothing gets fixed and your integrity gets questioned.

ABSOLUTELY! Whether or not they are, it has to be done. The investigation does not have to be announced to everyone, it can be done without the knowledge of all the Soldiers in the company.

Unless it's completely obvious that they are dating they may just have a close professional relationship. Are they a male and a female? Would you have similar suspicions if both parties were of the same gender?

I don't think they should. When I first started in the military my 1SG and one of the platoon leaders were friends, along with his wife. These types of investigations can damage a service record and are usually spawned because of a disgruntled Soldier. The one I knew about was because a Soldier was told she would not be getting the 1SG's endorsement for a MOS change. Unless you have concrete proof, I don't believe one should be done.
