Several entertainers have declined to perform for PE Trump's inauguration. Is there any requirement to show if the PE asks?

The radio personality on the station I listen to mentioned Garth Brooks had turned down an invite to perform. I have heard of others opting out. The DJ sounded incredulous that a performer wouldn't want to be the entertainment at this historical event. Would you refuse or perform? Elaborate, please.

There could be many reasons an entertainer may opt not to perform there including the possibility they are already booked elsewhere. If they choose not to or choose not to. i'm not concerned that is up to them. Just because the entertainers are in the public eye that doesn't mean they can't make their own decisions. They have no obligation to explain it any more than anyone else would. To many people draw conclusions on things they have no insight into anyway, why worry about it ?

Frankly, Maj Kim Patterson, if they don't want to entertain on President-elect Trump's behalf, I don't think he would want them. Were I an entertainer, I would have refused Obama.
Let some military musicians play for him, like the United States Marine Band, "The President's Own" or the United States Army Band, "Pershing's Own". They're much more appropriate for an inauguration rather than some rap/hip hop band or some worn out rock and roll "fading" star.

I just saw Gene Simmons on FOX News and try as they might to get a straight answer out of him, he declined to state why he wasn't playing at the Inauguration. He said Trump never asked him to play and kept dodging their questions, talking about his new business ventures and upcoming tour, and kept repeating that people just need to get past it [the election] and quit obsessing... they just need to move on.

Gene Simmons is Jewish, and being in the entertainment industry which is bankrolled by uber-Liberal super wealthy Jews, he's decided against playing at Trump's Inauguration because he doesn't want it to come back and hit him in the pocketbook. I don't think it has anything to do with national politics... but rather the politics of not offending his fans or people in the entertainment industry that he has to deal with.

I play bass guitar in a band and hell, if we were asked to play, I'd do it in a heartbeat. But then again, I'm conservative and don't depend on the band's income for my livelihood. If we had some kind of recording contract and the producers were Progressive Socialists, we might not ever be invited back to the studio if they found out we were playing at the inauguration. Tough call. I think Simmons is okay with Trump as President but is simply looking out for his personal, financial, well-being.

I think this whole thing is much ado about nothing. In two weeks or so, we'll find out who is performing. Then in another couple of weeks, we'll find out that everything was arranged over a month in advance of the inauguration.

Frankly, I believe the many different Armed Forces Bands would be appropriate choices for this occasion. Much more so than any of the over hyped commercial celebrities. The inauguration is a uniquely American party and the entertainment should be representative of that.

Personally, I wouldn't decline an invitation from the President no matter which side my politics might fall on. That being said though, if I were a performer, I also have to think of my bottom line. Will performing for the President help or hurt my career? Will my fans start boycotting my concerts or albums simply because I played a show? Now if that were the case, I would respectfully decline.

I wouldn't make such a spectacle of it saying F--- the President etc etc. It's a fine line.

I do not believe that there should be a requirement to show if the PE asks. However, personally, I would consider being invited to perform before the PE to be a great honor. Not usually bestowed on just everybody. How many of us have ever been honored to work on the presidential grounds at Camp David, been part of Air Force One, or for that matter have anything or any piece of memorabilia from the White House. Personally, from what I have seen, most of those that have declined are those that are still suffering from the Me generation. They are more interested in what is in it for them, as opposed to healing the wounds of this nation and are suffering from the delusion that perhaps there great act of defiance will topple the Trump administration. It is their right to decline an invitation to the PE's inauguration, and I guess it is thier right to foolishly do so. I feel that any play by the media regarding these people just plays into their hand and they should just be ignored.

Sp4 Byron Skinner…I will agree that PE Trump is the most popular man in Hollywood and in the entertainment industry but beside the obvious answer of not supporting him. I can see two reasons, performers expect to be paid for their services or at least gain some favorable publicity I see none of that here and with Trumps reputation there most likely are many people in the entertainment industry that has worked at Trump properties and with didn't get paid or less the they were expecting. Trump has a long history of disregard for contracts and prefers to go to court then settle.

But all the rest refusing just because it's Trump is a little stupid. He is going to be President and nothing they do can stop that. Our nation has some of the most crazy stuff going on now that's hard to take. Safe places, snow flakes and being a man or women is part of the problem. If I had talent I would love to showcase it wherever the opening was. As for those that do not, that is their prerogative. The POTUS has all military bands at his disposal, they perform because it is their job. I do not believe that we should boycott someone that turns the opportunity down. But, those that feel different than us , oh well. Trump was not my first choice, he was my only choice when November rolled around. I buy very little music anyway. First being asked to perform for an inauguration is a great honor no matter who the president elect is. With that said though no one is required to participate and shouldn't be belittled for not wanting to participate for personal reasons.
