Does anyone really follow their personal RP Influence Score?

I see my RP Influence Score on a regular basis, and I am currently 2,156 out of 839,734 resulting in the Top 1%. I see other who are ranked in the Top 50 of the 839,734, and think to myself, how in the world could I even get close to their numbers? Very daunting, but I'm glad to be a part of the group. Thank you to all of you have responded to my posts, comments, and/or responses. Positive or Negative, the discussions make me think and ponder my position on various life issues.

It's just another number associated with my profile.

Now, if RP started allowing us to cash in the influence number for coffee certificates, I could see Lt Col Charlie Brown's number plummeting.

I checked like you did, and two things came to mind.
1) It's a measure of how much time I'm burning for an inconsequential measure of lord knows what. Can I spend them? Nope?
2) Those with super high points in the Top 5 are probably legacy members who contributed when they were E1's all the way through their careers.

I'm still trying to see if I can draft an Evaluation Bullet that will get past my raters and HRC.

There is value to this forum. At the very least it's expedited my getting my branch changed from 92A to 90A and as a result someone there helped me start the process to get $10K in my pocket for committing to an additional 3 years. Those are real things with real contribution.

No. I couldn't even tell you what my Influence Score is nor how it's calculated. I just give my old
Senior Chief a-s opinion/advice when a subject/issue/question is universal to all branches of the military services (or Coast Guard specific) and let the chips fall where they may. My hope is that somebody's life situation was helped by something that I said.

I was much more active when this site first launched. It was a fun place to talk to other military folks about military stuff for a guy who had recently left the Army and was adjusting to civilian life. Engaging with the site and seeing your influence score go up was a fun little meta game, but even then was secondary to just talking to the people here. RP instituted some changes to the site years ago and it's been a lesser experience ever since. Even the fun of keeping up with the influence score meta game lost all appeal when the overall experience became worse.

CPO David R. D. The points I think were a way of generating traffic on here by creating a competition between members of this forum to see who can get the highest total number of point. I use the site for a couple things, brag about my students, make people laugh with my daily statements and cartoons but also to provide advice on things I know about and the occasional question to satisfy my curiosity. If they discontinued the points, I would still be on here. I have connected with some really great Veterans that I would love to meet in person one day to shoot the $hit.

I remember it seemed like it took forever to get my first 10,000 points. I never thought I would reach 1,000,000 but it happened, a couple times over. Just enjoy the site, kick back, read, laugh, and maybe even cry.

In my opinion it is more of a problem than a blessing. There is a lot of chaff and not much wheat on RP, all because of point chasers.
