The version I read grandfathered all of us who are already in, and that any change would be communicated to those who entered the service after the effective date of the new retirement system.

Definitely an issue worth watching... Here's what the people who decide military pensions get. Judges get 100% retirement. Don't even get me started on local law enforcement and firefighters in our state, the majority of whom retire with "disabilities" and make more retired than on the job.

http://www.senate.gov/CRSReports/crs-publish.cfm?pid='0E%2C*PLC8%22%40%20%20%0A Response by MAJ Robert (Bob) Petrarca made Jul 25 at 2014 9:00 AM 2014-07-25T09:00:36-04:00 2014-07-25T09:00:36-04:00 1SG Michael Blount 341439

Back in '91-92, there was a gray area retirement the Army offered people with at least 15, but less than 20 years' service. Has that been re-instituted? I have a couple Soldiers pestering me with that question and the best answer I can give right now is "I don't know". IMHO, that's the worst answer in the world. If you don't have 20 years by age 60, you have until age 62 to fix it. Either way -- you're history, bub Response by 1SG Michael Blount made Sep 17 at 2015 2:26 PM 2015-09-17T14:26:55-04:00 2015-09-17T14:26:55-04:00 LTC Mark Overberg 3220579

Not true. Service members are eligible for an active duty retirement after 20 years of service or less if a medical retirement or TERA is approved. Reserve Component Service members are eligible for retirement at age 60 (assuming they have 20 “good” years) or less is they have qualifying service (normally deployments) or if they have 15 or more years of service but are medically retired.
