Republican, Democrat, or other? What do we have more of here? What reasons do you like one party over the other?

I have heard that the majority of the military tend to support the Republican party, although I am sure it is not a complete landslide.
More recently it seems that the Libertarian party has gained a lot of ground among service members.
I am doing a survey to see which way people in this group lean but I would also like to hear everyone's opinions on why they like one over the other, or what would get them to change their minds, or what they do and don't like about each party.

CPL Bishop,
The new Libertarian Party Vice Chairman, Arvin Vorha, refers to the military and Veterans as "Welfare Queens."

1SG Mark Wilder: That may be true....there are always a few nuts in every organization...I don't believe its ruined the whole party (Libertarians).

If the party leadership feels that way, it is the sentiment of the party itself. The internal workings of a party reflect the candidates they will support. If you would like a further erosion of earned benefits for the militarty and Veterans, stay with the Libertarian Party, that is your choice. But if you want to seriously uphold the Constitution and be a part of the solution, there are other choices. The Veterans Party of America is one. http://www.veteranspartyofamerica.org

I'm conservative. I believe in less government, the better. I believe strongly in free enterprise. I vote for the candidate who most likely will represent me...not a particular party affiliation. I believe in God and Country!

Citing anecdotal evidence as proof does not provide evidence OR proof, particularly when the historical evidence overwhelmingly proves otherwise.

All the more reason to enact the "One term in a row" Policy, whereby a politician can only run for an office for one term in a row, and must then take a term off, or run for a different office. Of course, this would eliminate such things as congressional retirement, or retirement healthcare, or seniority. Also, since we should NOT be paying politicians to run for office, if a politician does wish to run for a different office while still holding office, they should be required to resign their current office when they file the paperwork to run for their new office......
One Term In A Row......

As I recall, when our great nation was founded, our elected representatives traveled from their real jobs to perform their patriotic duties during the Congressional session. When they were done with voting and creating legislation for the session, they went back home to continue with their real job. There was no such thing as a career politician and no such thing as the political lobby. I'm not saying we should (or can at this point) go back to that, but I do wonder how and why we ever got away form it...

SGT Aitken, I used to be a Republican until the Tea Party and the Ultra Right took it over. Now I am an Independent. Since NC does not recognize any the Independent Party, I do get to choose which Party to vote in during the Primaries.
As it stands, neither of the two Major Parties, in my opinion, has a viable candidate for President. Hopefully that will change in the next two years. As it stands I have not been able to vote FOR a Presidential Candidate since Reagan just against the opponent.
I believe you need to revamp your Survey and include Independents since I cannot answer it and am sort of surprised to see the results. "None of the Above" might also be a good choice.

There is a new option. The Veterans Party of America. Centrist and solution based. http://www.veteranspartyofamerica.org

I have looked into that party - right now it is not very active in NC. They are looking for a person to take over in nc , no not me.

MCPO Gene Treants, one can still support a party, and vote with them, if the candidate is the best fit for you, without being a leader in teh party.
