Repeating Ranger School?

Hi, I am in a unique situation where I am enlisted as an 11B while doing ROTC (not contracted yet). There is an opportunity to get selected for Ranger school after Infantry AIT. However in ROTC, I am looking to commission as an Infantry officer (meaning I'll most likely get sent to Ranger School). If I am to get selected and go during AIT, would I have to go through Ranger School again as an officer?

No, once you complete Ranger school it applies when you make the transition. The Ranger tab is a permanent award that can only be revoked for misconduct.

No. You would already possess the tab. Ranger school is a leadership school not an officer's course.

You can try for selection at AIT I’m sure the Ranger Recruiting Staff are always hovering...but I don’t see why you’d be a good selectee for Ranger school out of AIT due to the fact that it’s a leadership school focused on training that is then implemented across the Infantry Corps. As a private (ROTC Cadet..non contract) the Army’s need doesn’t usually incorporate Ranger Qualified Privates (okay a few from the Battalion..) normally E4Ps and above are the target attendees. I tab out as a Corporal so lower NCOs and someSPC are usually the start point...hope the information was helpful,also call the 75th Infantry Regimental HQ ask for the Recruitment-Retention NCO and they can help you with more accurate information, better that your recruiting station NCO.

People have been known to retake several phases because of failure, but I'm pretty sure once you're in its forever. You need to contact the school at Ft Benning.

Another thought for you to consider, if you do go to ranger school, it may delay your time pursuing your degree/commission. It could delay you up to six months which could end up being two academic semesters. Are you willing to put your academic goals on hold for a year?

The Ranger “School for Leaders” is a #ForeverTab... like good ‘experiential’ luggage, it’s an all purpose skill identifier no matter the “letter prefix” of your rank... yes, it’s a good investment of your time and energy. The sooner you earn it, the faster it will start paying dividends!... as compared to Basic AIT, chances are proportionally higher that you will go to Ranger School from Infantry Basic Officer Course (IBOLC) than 11B AIT... Furthermore, based on your follow on assignment, you will likely get Airborne School on your way to Ranger School! #RLTW
