Redux worth it

Do you think that the redux is worth it or not.

My understanding is REDUX is only worth it if you plan to stay in the military over 28 years. In the current environment you may not get the option to stay this long.

Depends on how long you stay in. If you only do 20 years…heck NO! Do the math…it does not work out. Only take the REDUX if you plan on staying in more than 20 years…and you are deployed for the tax free benefit.

All seem to be on the same sheet...REDUX is worth it only if longevity (25+ years of service) is your goal; or if you play/win the lottery with the money. ;)

Worth it if you plan on not living/collecting after the day you retire.

Not worth it for everyone else - even with the one-time catch-up, the longer you live, the reduced COLA will get you.

Also, think about this. Would the military offer the REDUX if it was going to "cost" them more? Nope. They are only offering it because it's a better deal for them.

I agree, not worth it unless you plan on staying in to 25 years. Also, consider what your post-retirement career will be. Some, not all, folks who retire will actually make more money in their civilian equivalent jobs depending on their experience, certifications, etc.
