I think we have all seen "that" thread. I can't make promises but I think if we get enough support for this thread we might be able to convince the Rallypoint administrators to close/lock the "should a 2lt salute a 1lt" thread.

Let's see if we can get it gone, going to need a lot of support on this one I think, but I am willing to give it a shot.

***EDIT***
For those that feel it has important content, I am not saying we should delete it, I am simply saying try to lock it, so that no further comments or likes to comments can be made so that it doesn't continue to populate itself to the top of the discussion board. I think we can all agree that IF any education will/would have came from that thread, it has already been discussed.

I agree on closing a few of them. Especially those of staff who get plenty of run based on visibility. I sometimes see threads totally ignored. We are a team, regardless of being active or Veteran/Retired.

Add to the interface of the "Popular Discussions" section. Allow the user to filter questions posted by subject, likes, responses, MOS, location and ,most importantly, time (Most Popular last 24 hours, week, month etc). No need to delete threads, just allow us a way to filter content.

Absolutely not. Obviously, some people are interested in it, or it would be dead already.

There is no need to stifle the conversations of others just because you aren't interested or have grown bored. I see this the same as the "I don't like this show - they should cancel it" approach, rather than just changing the channel. There are plenty of discussions on RP that I am not interested in. I ignore them.

I can't help to see the irony of opening another thread in hopes of closing a thread. For one, even though I am the author, I would never say to close a thread. If it still gains comments than people still want to be heard. I would agree that there is a lot of redundancy but at what point to you start closing threads? Would a post from MAJ Burns be next or is it the content that you may not find to your liking. I see many things here that I tend to disagree with but I would rather ask for a hide option rather than a lock. The whole point of an open forum is to be open. Or maybe I am crazy.

I haven't commented in it, haven't even bothered to read it , because the title alone makes it sound ridiculously lame, but I wish there was a way to mark that thread as "I'm not interested in this thread, nor will I ever be, so please don't populate it at the top of my list ever again." Kinda like an opt out for those of us who see a thread come through that we automatically know we are not interested in and do not want to be bothered with "new responses" updates in the future.

Close the thread. All 2nd Lt's know they should salute a 1st Lt for respect to the higher rank. Enlisted ranks salute officers, officers salute higher ranking officers. It's one of the first things you learn in basic. In the Air Force we were taught customs and courtesies.

Thanks to all that have participated thus far. We are still holding strong at 84% to close it, but it looks like it will not happen. As long as everyone knows that the answer to the question of "Should they salute?" is yes. The answers contained within that thread talk about tradition and if it actually does happen (not the initial question), and that will vary based on the person.

First, it hard to imagine anything sillier to talk about than whether a 2LT should salute a 1LT. There are regulations which cover this adequately, so posting opinions is just wasting time, unless you have the ear of the DA regulations board.

As far as those who don't want their inbox cluttered, there is a SIMPLE solutions to that too. With each email I get on a thread I am involved in, there is a link to take me off the watch list. If an Infantryman can figure out how to get off the list, anyone should be able to manage it.

Finally, the more you post, the higher the thread goes in popularity. If you've had your say, you can drop it. There are plenty of posts guarded by "politicians" who have an axe to grind, want to have their own way, and are IMPERVIOUS to logic or to any opinion that doesn't match their own. Arguing with such people is far worse than arguing with a pig. They will drag you down to their level of stupidity and beat you with experience. There's nothing such people hate worse than being ignored.

If you REALLY want to chap them off, post ONE comment, follow it with, "I'm not coming back to rehash something that has been solved in the minds of reasonable people. I will be un-following this thread. You are welcome to your playpen, where you are the master of everything you post."
