If I rejoin the military after having been out 9 years, do I have to go back to basic or is it a refresher like I keep hearing?

I am prior service been out 9 years do I have to go back to basic or is it refresher like I keep hearing. I should be MOS-T for AIT do I get to have my car with me so I can see my family if I relocate them down where my AIT is?

Ok, let’s break this down. You have been out for 9 years, and we’re only a PV2 at discharge meaning you got chaptered for something and your RE code should be a 3. You will need to go back through basic and on top of that, the Army will not consider you a MOS-T if you were chaptered.

What kind of trouble did you get into IOT be discharged as a PV2?

I believe if you've been separated longer than 5 years you will have to redo basic.

You've been out for 9 years, which is quite a long time.
I'm afraid I don't have any expertise to a poper answer, therefore I can't provide you an accurate response. But it might be worth knowing what your RE code is on your DD-214. And I say that just based off your rank which is probably the hitter question people are asking right now. On the contrary, Army Directive 2019-31 (notice that this document was issued in 2019, so take what I quote below with a grain of salt) states:

SUBJECT: Army Directive 2019-31 (Integration or Refresher Training for Prior Service
Personnel)

7. PS personnel excepted in paragraph 5 and with less than a 5-year break in service
who have completed Army BCT, Marine Corps Basic Training, Air Force or Navy
Special Operations Forces training, or Air Force Security Forces training are exempt
from attending PS-AIC, BCT, or OSUT. However, if these PS personnel have more
than a 5-year break in service, they will be required to attend a Prior Service Refresher
Course (PSRC) as established by the Commander, Training and Doctrine Command.
The PSRC is authorized to be conducted at Regular Army or reserve component
locations. PSRC waivers must be submitted to the Army Director of Training, Office of
the Army Deputy Chief of Staff (DCS), G-3/5/7. Some PS personnel, regardless of
break in service, may require follow-on MOS training. As indicated in paragraph 6,
equivalent or constructive credit may be awarded.

Now, again, this memo was from 2019. There is bound to be a new one out but at least with some due diligence, this gives your search in the right direction. I'm sure with that information can help you find the latest policy or memo, if that one is not it to find out what the rule is. You will not be authorized to move your family to your AIT. That's not to say that people haven't done it, but you're not authorized it. That means the Army won't pay for it and your AIT will still treat you as if your family is not local.

Before you ask, "Will I be allowed to...while in AIT?" It's whatever the policy is of the battalion and company of the AIT you are in.

if you have more than a three year break in service you will have to go back through basic training I went through AIT at fort Jackson for a reclass with a two year break in service and i did not have to go through basic training again but i lost all my time in grade as a SPC everyone with more then three years had to go back through but that could have changed
