I learned of Shon's death last year. This may seem that its because I didn't care, its not, its because Shon became a walking ghost - the returning soldier I pray we talk more about to prevent this from happening.

I read this post many months ago but was too afraid to respond. Too afraid you would judge me for not saving Shon. I'm the one he came home from war to - I am the one who saw him decline, who thought stupidly that he was getting help because he really really tried to get help. Who didnt know what danger that help was to him.

I hesitate to speak because I don't want to dishonor this hero. But I feel if I am silent about how he was treated that it can happen again.

I hesitate to speak bc I am not the mother of his son's and my ignorance didn't prevent the chasm between that relationship that PTSD can cause, but I want to scream to system and those who can help the walking wounded to please see the damage that is caused and the end of the wrecked trail of a soldier improperly treated.
I didn't have to worry about funeral arrangements or experience the fresh wound of death, but I am haunted by what I could have done if I just knew what the heck was going on .

Please pray for Shon's sons. I pray for those who can still be saved.Response by Jennifer Hill made May 29 at 2017 5:28 PM2017-05-29T17:28:22-04:002017-05-29T17:28:22-04:002014-08-04T14:47:37-04:00
