They will be able to best answer your questions. 1SG Private RallyPoint Member Thu, 28 Aug 2014 13:48:02 -0400 2014-08-28T13:48:02-04:00 Response by LTC Paul Labrador made Aug 28 at 2014 1:51 PM https://www.rallypoint.com/answers/pcsing-to-ft-bliss--2?n=220382&urlhash=220382

If you are looking for proximity, then yes, on-post is your best bet. On-post housing here is nice and most of it is new. The nicer off-post housing is either on the far east side or far west side which can be 20-30min drives depending on traffic. NE side is starting to grow, but doesn't have as much services and convenient shopping. I would not look for anythin immediatley off post. I told myself I would NEVER live on post. Our waitlist was quoted about 90 days, but call the housing office--- was about 15 days when I called and got it in 10 business days. They are still building. All 'historical housing' has been remodeled. Privatization of housing FTW! Seriously, I've been here 2 months and believe it is the best duty station I've been to.
We did look on the West and East sides for housing, kinda hit or miss depending. They ones we liked had no yard (i have 1 dog and kids) and ones with a yard were in need of remodel. And the drive. For peace of mind, on post works and I'm only 4-5 blocks from whereever I need to be (the Px Mall, food, my work, etc...)

Heck, I just bought a bicycle. The housing on post, like any other place, simply depends on what you get. DO NOT accept anything on North or South main post (drugs, loud parties etc). Logan heights is the newest housing for E-6s. It's decent and close to the commisary, PX and freedom crossing. Freedom Crossing is like no other place on any post. Plenty of entertainment.
