I enjoy living on post because everything is paid for in a house. Off post they know what you make in bah and use it some places are good but it all depends. On post Forsyth has garages but that's about it.Response by SGT Private RallyPoint Member made May 23 at 2015 9:05 PM2015-05-23T21:05:13-04:002015-05-23T21:05:13-04:00CW5 Private RallyPoint Member691672

Check out this group on RallyPoint, PFC Private RallyPoint Member:

https://www.rallypoint.com/locations/fort-riley-ks

Also, there are several other previous discussions about PCS'ing to Fort Riley. I was happier living off post than on.

And nothing is easy about moving from one Base to another. If you're making a career of it, she's going to have to get used to it.Response by SSG Private RallyPoint Member made May 23 at 2015 9:29 PM2015-05-23T21:29:47-04:002015-05-23T21:29:47-04:00MAJ Ron Peery692215

On post housing at Fort Riley has been upgraded a lot in the last 7 years. I am not sure about availability. Both Junction City and Manhattan have lots of rentals available, but they are pricey. If you want to rent in Manhattan, check out Advanced Property Management. They are good people, and take care of the properties they manage. There are other towns nearby if you don't mind a drive which will have some places you might like. If you are looking at buying a house, there is nothing inexpensive in Manhattan. Most places will go for over 100k, even if they are a century old and in poor condition. Land is at a premium. And for some reason I never was able to figure out, Manhattan is on average about 10 % higher cost of living than other places in NE Kansas. Once you get there and get settled, I think you will like the area.Response by MAJ Ron Peery made May 24 at 2015 8:21 AM2015-05-24T08:21:32-04:002015-05-24T08:21:32-04:00SFC Private RallyPoint Member692382

Aviation BDE at Riley is always on the go. I absolutely love Ft Riley. I'm a small town guy and Kansas is very much country like my home state of Georgia. As far as living on or off post, you can get housing on post with garages, but they don't have a ton of space. Forsythe housing, the newest on post, is the only area with garages. There are plenty of housing options off post to have a garage. Most members choose apartments like the Bluffs to have a garage and easy access to post, especially the airfield gate. However, any installation/duty station will be what you make of it. Have fun wearing that BRO patch. Duty first!Response by SFC Private RallyPoint Member made May 24 at 2015 10:43 AM2015-05-24T10:43:50-04:002015-05-24T10:43:50-04:00CSM Michael Evans697435

PFC Nordeck,

Contrary to SGT Lara's comments, 3-66AR, as well as 1ABCT, and for that matter 1ID in general is a great location to serve! That being said it can be a great place if you can handle the crazy wind and temperamental weather of the Midwest. Junction City has some sketchy areas. A friend of mine found a bullet hole in his vehicle by one of the Mexican restaurants on karaoke night. However, it does have some nicer areas. Manhattan is overran with the K-State college students. There are some really nice houses out there but remember its a little bit of a drive for pt everyday. Kansas City is 2-2 1/2 hours east on I-70 (which is a partial toll road) that city has some rich history and a lot to do. Just don't let yourself become one of the Soldiers that say theres nothing to do besides hunt, fish, and drink.Response by SGT(P) Private RallyPoint Member made Jul 1 at 2015 7:08 PM2015-07-01T19:08:07-04:002015-07-01T19:08:07-04:002015-05-23T21:02:24-04:00
