There is a online FAQ on JBLM housing.Response by SGT Private RallyPoint Member made Dec 2 at 2015 9:21 AM2015-12-02T09:21:11-05:002015-12-02T09:21:11-05:00SGT Cody Skinner1144836<div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>My wife and I lived in Steilacoom right out side North Fort when we were stationed there. It was beautiful and quiet. Lacey is a very nice area too. There are all kinds of outdoor activities to do there. I really miss all the outdoor fun stuff and cooler weather.Response by SGT Cody Skinner made Dec 2 at 2015 10:41 AM2015-12-02T10:41:04-05:002015-12-02T10:41:04-05:00CSM Michael Poll1145204<div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>It has been a long time since I was there, but, I remember that if you are looking for off post apartments, I found a GREAT small apt complex in a town called Steilacoom? (spelling may be wrong) It is just outside the back gate of North Fort. It is a small 4 unit complex with 4 Apartments per unit. It was on 98th ST across from what used to be Pierce College. It is away from the AFB so you wont hear the jets taking off and landing. It is quiet and reasonable, at least it used to be. 2 bedroom 2 bathrooms. We used to have deer come up to us in the back yard. I would stay away from Tillicum, Lakewood for sure. Tillicum you will find out is just not a place to hang out and Lakewood, Tacoma are on the "take off" side of the AFB. Now remember I was there in the 1990's so it has been awhile! I did visit recently and the Apartment complex is still there, and the area seen to be just as nice! Good Luck! I loved my time at Fort Lewis!!!!Response by CSM Michael Poll made Dec 2 at 2015 1:23 PM2015-12-02T13:23:46-05:002015-12-02T13:23:46-05:00SGT Private RallyPoint Member1146843<div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>DO NOT MOVE TO LAKEWOOD!Response by SGT Private RallyPoint Member made Dec 3 at 2015 6:09 AM2015-12-03T06:09:03-05:002015-12-03T06:09:03-05:001SG Private RallyPoint Member1147211<div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>WA is a heavy Meth state. Choose wisely. Not All areas are up to par. I used to live in Lacey, that area is pretty good. Look at traffic also. I had to leave 25-40 mins earlier.Response by 1SG Private RallyPoint Member made Dec 3 at 2015 9:23 AM2015-12-03T09:23:20-05:002015-12-03T09:23:20-05:001SG Justin Little1155080<div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>If you live off post and want to avoid I-5 move to yelm which is more in the country. Go to their website or call for more info. My wife and I went through that and found a great apartment within a few days, didn't have to pay any deposit. I don't know much about on post housing. Traffic is better if you live north of post, imho, and people will tell you Lakewood is the "ghetto" but we've been here 6 months now and it's fine. Just check reviews on the apartments you move into and drive through that area a bit. Puyallup or Lacy are nicer but you're looking at a longer commute, maybe 20-30min++ with trafficResponse by SGT Private RallyPoint Member made Dec 30 at 2015 1:33 PM2015-12-30T13:33:51-05:002015-12-30T13:33:51-05:00SSG Shavonde Chase2064269<div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>I know this is late but you can always check the post website and Facebook for unit pages.
