Outside of serving our country in the military, what have you contributed to make this a better place for yourself and others?

Small things can make a world of difference in the life's of others. Myself I volunteer Veteran outreach program reaching out to homeless Vets to direct them to where they can get assistance. Serve and help prepare meals for local homeless shelters. I also volunteer in a adopt a tree program where we go out once a year and plant trees. Volunteer cleaning up the creeks and waterways it's amazing the amount of debris there is. We all can do a little to contribute no matter how small. However the thing that I believe is the most worthy of all the things that I volunteer to do. Is that I treat others with dignity and respect. I also thank GOD each and everyday for allowing me to do the things I do and for the blessings I enjoy. So the time I spend doing this cost me nothing. I don't want absolutely nothing in return for doing such things. The fact that it will make a difference for the good is rewarding enough. If you can get out there and volunteer it can really make a difference.

At 1 time I won awards from the Red Cross and the VFW for volunteer hours.

That is a VERY GOOD Question. Keep in mind, what I may consider to be a Positive Action or Deed, others may view as not so Positive.

With that in mind, I have tried to Represent a Military Veteran in a positive manner. I attempt to Lead "From the Front" by example and decision taking the emotion out of decisions and looking at the facts. I believe if America is truly an Equality then we should not have ANY FAVORITISM or ACTIVISM that does not PROTECT ALL AMERICANS RIGHTS! I had the opportunity to train several VERY SUCCESSFUL Managers as well as Share my Experience and Knowledge with a diversified group of Skilled Tradesmen, Studying Engineers and Practicing Skilled Tradesman.

But Mostly I pride myself on being a WARRIOR for the Veteran. I take it personal to ensure our Veterans get the promised care and attention they so Courageously EARNED! So many one term veterans dont get the care they are promised all because they dont know and "as we ALL KNOW" Uncle Sam dont come and OFFER! Many have little or no insurance OR what they have dont help them. I have seen and heard all to many losing out when it could have been prevented or at least reduced the pain and suffering.

So I have not done so much, but I still plan to do more. You See I feel ALL AMERICANS OWE THEM!

After military retirement, I joined a State Police Troop to where I trained various State Troopers in the fine art of squad tactics and mob control. After fifteen years retired a second time and am currently applying to join a joint Police Training Cadre scheduled for Bosnia and Timor. All in all, I dedicated forty years to our homeland as a soldier and my state as a State Police Officer.

I volunteer at a soup kitchen and I mentor others when I can. SSgt Harvey "Skip" Porter It is a great idea to sometimes act as a good listener. People are more resilient than you know. sometimes if they say their problems out loud, they can hear the solution in the questions that arise!

Volunteer firefighter, EMT, foster parent, started a scholarship for nursing students in my mother’s name at the community college she attended for her RN, veterans mentoring.
