In my opinion it was for the wrong reason and the supervision who delegated the separation were more in the wrong, however what are the opinions that the community shares? I was separated over a year ago. I'm doing alright for myself and my family that I carried through my separation (general discharge, not bad conduct).Response by PFC Private RallyPoint Member made Dec 1 at 2015 8:07 PM2015-12-01T20:07:10-05:002015-12-01T20:07:10-05:00Sgt Aaron Kennedy, MS1143765

There's always a story. And it's always longer than can be told in just a few sentences.

Sometimes the Command gets it right. Sometimes they don't.

When it really boils down to it, as long as the person didn't commit a Court Martial (as in Jail Time) offense, I work under the assumption "they raised their hand just like I did." People make mistakes. I know a SgtMaj who had a slew of DUIs back when that was "acceptable." I know other guys who had one and it was a career-ender. It ain't my place to judge someone else's former career.Response by Sgt Aaron Kennedy, MS made Dec 1 at 2015 8:33 PM2015-12-01T20:33:31-05:002015-12-01T20:33:31-05:00CSM Carl Cunningham1144039

I am always on the fence with this one. There were a ton of lazy leaders out there that jumped on the chapter train just to get rid of a problem. Now, some issues are zero tolerance in the Army, but others(ABCP, APFT) are lazy leadership sometimes.Response by CSM Carl Cunningham made Dec 1 at 2015 11:23 PM2015-12-01T23:23:34-05:002015-12-01T23:23:34-05:00MSgt Curtis Ellis1144273

Without this being a more "specific" question, it's hard to give a fair answer... We all have issues. Sometimes those issues weren't compatible with military service, and sometimes military service just wasn't compatible with some people... Both have stories that have to be considered before an "opinion of the veteran" can be rendered. This question cannot be answered fairly for a such a large diverse group of veterans.Response by MSgt Curtis Ellis made Dec 2 at 2015 2:33 AM2015-12-02T02:33:01-05:002015-12-02T02:33:01-05:00PO1 John Miller1144326

Every case is different and should be handled as such. Sometimes leaders are overzealous with the chapter bat sometimes its appropriate. I know a few people who were chaptered out with general discharges and done just fine for themselves. In one case the individual was a great person but not a good Soldier. With the information you gave, I probably would have gone a different route with handling the issues but that is just me. Don't let it define who you are and use it as a learning experience. If nothing else, hey, at least you didn't kill or rape anyone.Response by SGT David T. made Dec 2 at 2015 1:46 PM2015-12-02T13:46:46-05:002015-12-02T13:46:46-05:00A1C Private RallyPoint Member1146731

Polemic:
Expectations generally aren't very high, so if you couldn't cut it in the military...
As I've seen, it's very often (perhaps usually) the result of "leaders" scheming to hide their own deficiencies.
We have many good leaders, but we also have many selfish frauds.
Cleansing the vessel isn't easy at any level.Response by A1C Private RallyPoint Member made Dec 3 at 2015 3:11 AM2015-12-03T03:11:36-05:002015-12-03T03:11:36-05:002015-12-01T20:03:54-05:00
