At the time that OJC occurred I was assigned to 1/325th and we were on block leave. What is interesting for me in relation to this question are the following items:

I had previously been assigned to the 2/508th PIR between my tours in Panama - This is the battalion that was reflagged to 3/504th.

During my first tour in Panama, I was assigned to the Airborne Company - part of the battalion that would eventually be reflagged as the 1/508th. That unit when stood up in Panama in the early 60's was the 3/508th.

OJC occurred just a few months after I PCS'd back to Bragg from my second tour in Panama, and I was later informed that I was almost called back from leave to be an augmentee to another battalion in Division, but this did not occur since I did not speak Spanish.
