After a side trip to Iraq and other assignments, I returned to Afghanistan in 2011 as part of a US division headquarters responsible for 11 brigades across eastern Afghanistan including multinational partners.
During this deployment our division had organic brigades in Iraq as the mission changed there and they consolodated and moved south to Kuwait. Receiving updates from them, across the two theaters, was facinating as Operation Iraqi Freedom became New Dawn and they left the country at the end of 2011.
Since my redeployment in 2012, I have been watching the events in Afghanistan, and the attached infographic tells the story very simply.
