On PCS leave is it a bad idea to go to your company to figure out who your sponsor is if you haven't got in contact with them yet?

I would personally stay away until I am due to report. They won't be ready for you, and you can't do much besides get contact information or maybe shake a hand or two.
You have a lot to worry about when you PCS. Take care of house and household, and worry about the unit when you arrive.

I have done just that many times with mixed reviews. In most cases, i would recommend stay away. If they haven't thought enough to sponsor you, they don't make them think about you tell your there.

Well, the first question is: do you really need a sponsor? I've never really needed one for my PCS's, as I typically do my own research on my own for housing, etc. If you don't need one, then don't bother. If you do, I'd reach out to the BDE S1.
