Can you imagine having to pay to have your ribbons updated every time you got a new one? How about when you changed units and they have different awards. As well I think that having fresh ribbons, badges, etc. looks sharp. I can imagine that as your uniform is cleaned your sewn on items begin to fade, which would deter from the overall appearance. We did have an option to sew on ranks on our collars, but I felt that it would have been impractical and it should be the same way for ACUs. As much as I hate it and how tedious it is, I believe it shows one's pride in their uniform, achievements in their career, and awards they have earned. To place these pretty shiny things on this uniform takes patience, and care. If everything was sewn on, all of that gets taken away. I do believe they should be made in a way to where THEY DON'T FALL OFF ALL THE TIME!
