You are not resigning your commission. In the National Guard, you have have a federal commission in the Army or Air Force reserve component and a state appointment in the Army or Air National Guard. The only time you would need to resign or retire is if you are going into a State Defense Force, like California State Military Reserve, Ohio Military Reserve or New York State Guard. (unlike NG, they have no federal status; many people who retire from the military like to join them)Response by LTC Private RallyPoint Member made Jul 14 at 2016 8:52 PM2016-07-14T20:52:49-04:002016-07-14T20:52:49-04:00SPC Sheryl Koch1718687

I was a GS006 with the OSM staff. The best thing you can do is talk to a NG OSM staff. It's going to be a by name request, nondisclosure statement form, LEDS check to begin with. The majority of the work will be done by The OSM staff on the Gaining BDE. The SM in question needs to bring a copy of service records or sign an additional release to have them pulled. It's fairly quick and painless. The worst is the Gaining Line and Paragraph for the Officer in question.Response by SPC Sheryl Koch made Jul 14 at 2016 9:43 PM2016-07-14T21:43:08-04:002016-07-14T21:43:08-04:00MAJ Private RallyPoint Member1718793

Travis,
Not sure where you are in the process, and I don't want to insult your intelligence, but here goes:
The unit you are transferring to will fill out a letter of acceptance, which along with the rest of your paperwork should be forwarded through their parent brigade and any other infrastructure your state has to the state OSM (Officer Strength Manager). Just talk to that unit's S1, and they should be able to point you in the right direction. That being said, you don't need to do anything except present the requested documents, there is no memo or anything you have to do that I know of. What documents you ask?
ORB
OERs
PT Card/Height Weight statement
Military Bio
Academic Evaluations (DA 1059s)
Security Clearance Statement
...Any other important stuff I may have missed.

Hope that helps.Response by MAJ Private RallyPoint Member made Jul 14 at 2016 10:49 PM2016-07-14T22:49:25-04:002016-07-14T22:49:25-04:00SMSgt Private RallyPoint Member1732478

Officers regardless of type of service get federal authorized - so you don't want to resign - you will just find a new slot to go from the reserve to the guard. If you are in the AF it is a fairly easy process as long as you are not in a undermanned field - for the reserve and the guard is sitting fat with bodies in that field. Check with the units in the state that you are interested in to see what slots are open - don't give up - we had people ask for 3 years before they finally got a slot in the guard from the reserve. Good LuckResponse by SMSgt Private RallyPoint Member made Jul 19 at 2016 5:38 PM2016-07-19T17:38:27-04:002016-07-19T17:38:27-04:002016-07-14T20:31:43-04:00
