President Barack Obama is bringing words of comfort and sympathy to grieving families of victims of the shooting rampage in Roseburg, Oregon, muting his message about the need for new laws to stem gun violence as he visits an area where firearms are popular.

My thoughts are that he was there to console the grieving families. I don't think this is the place to discuss gun control.

I think the tune changed once he (his staff) found out there would be protestors to his topic of discussion....hell, he will be bringing more guns (secret service) to the city....his home town (Chicago) has the toughest guns laws in the country and they have a dozen or so +/- murders every week...would have been like the pot calling the kettle black!

He did the right thing. It wasn't the time OR place to make a policy speech. It's not about him there.

I think it's smart to not bring it up, but I also think he didn't because it seems there was more to the story (as many of us said when he first spoke about gun control) than he initially though.

Question -- Why are people like SCPO Eddie Wilson allowed to continue posting comments, yet has blocked people from responding or voting on his comments? My opinion is that people should not be allowed to comment if they do not allow responses from certain people.

I'm glad for a change he finally did the right thing and thought about the people's feeling first instead of his agenda. Sounds like he got the message put out by the community loud and clear.
