Now caring for my 86 year old Army vet dad, does he need Medicaid or other supplemental coverage?

My dad is in the Reno VA system, has SSA, wondering if additional or gap coverage is necessary, like Medicaid or 3rd party insurance?

Medicaid is for low income. Talk with an advisor

If your Dad has Medicare Part B, He should be all set if he is treated by the VA exclusively... If He is treated by a hospital or clinic outside the VA, He may need Medicaid (in addition to Medicare Part B), which is usually administered by the State one lives in and that is usually for qualifying low income folks...
