Back in my artillery det days, we had policy, if an alert was called, you got to the unit as quick as possible period. One guy came to formation in his leopard print silk manly man studly bath robe, Top didn't say a word. Why, he complied with the order. We had to be nuke mission ready in a limited amount of time, no gave a damn what you looked like. I am willing to bet this guy is a REP 63 National Guardsman (Pre Basic Training) who has been issued a uniform, or part of a uniform, and nothing else. We had a guy come to our armory in El Paso, who had been prior service and I swear he had at least six knives on him. Every Joe and Jane went out and bought them and within 2 months the E-9 mafia had them declared unauthorized because they offered no real protection from anything. Normally I would destroy him, but only after asking what he thinks he is doing in those boots. I might understand perhaps a soft-shoe profile and those boots in winter. But I would still remind him that a professional appearance is still needed while in uniform, which those boots do not provide.

And yes, the hands in the pockets...it irks me only due to my military experiences. Though, I never really understood why that is unprofessional as I have met and worked with many executive level personnel, a few from Fortune 500 companies, that put their hands in their pockets, some even have photos done with hands either fully or partially in pockets. The only thing I can see being an issue with having your hands in your pockets is it can be interpreted body language for being nervous, not as confident, or something to hide/omit when talking with seniors. Fun fact though, quite a few body language experts state that holding your hands behind your back (as in Parade Rest or At Ease) can also be viewed as something to hide or deceitful.
