I think its absolutely STUPID that we keep hearing about the retardation of all these HoAs.....and when we hear about it again, that new particular HoA doesn't to be aware that HoAs in general are all destroying their reps. And of course the selective enforcement of rules that obviously don't even need to exist, which in this case are probably some peacekeep anti-gun liberals who take for granted what real men stood in their stead to preserve.

While this is an old story (happened in 2009) I am happy to report that he did win his battle with the HOA in January 2013.
It should have never been a battle to begin with, and I hate to imagine the frustration he had to face in the process, but always good to see a happy ending.

Am sick of these Michael Foxtrot HOAs and their pettiness whether its a flag or bumper stickers, and apparently always "harassing" vets. I think the people that take these "rules" to such extremes are nothing but martinet, pig-headed, people with nothing better to do in their lives - MHO, anyways.

That's sad and sickening. I really don't care for bumper stickers, let alone anything stuck on my vehicle, but it's a personal choice for each individual regardless of what it is. It's called free speech.

If the HOA has a written policy, or one that was voted on that ANY stickers are unsightly for their community, then ALL stickers go to include stick figure families, political support and so on. If no policy is in place, then get your Semper Fi on!

I am always appalled when I see or hear about those who have no respect for the sacrifices our veterans make and have to endure.

Further I am thoroughly disgusted and confused as to how the Republic of Texas would let this occur or drag on for as long as it has. Having lived in Texas for a while, I understand it to be a bastion for individual freedoms and a huge supporter of veterans.

Finally, this perfectly highlights the power of HOA's. In California time and again courts back the HOA because the home owner signed the contract. The one and only time I lived in an HOA, I received a notice of lien against my home, because a neighbor did not like my wind chime. So the lien was in affect until I took the windchime down. I am diligent when it comes to contracts, and know for fact that windchimes were not in the HOA contract. However, there was a clause which stipulated that anything that a neighbor found to be intrusive and notified the HOA board about would be considered a nuisance. This same neighbor had the board tell the house on the other side that they could not watch T.V. after 10 because the lights from the T.V. kept them up at night. It is unbelievable the amount of power they hold.

My thoughts on this issue, is that this veterans freedoms were violated by the letter; however, and unfortunately he signed a contract. It sounds as if he was able to fight this and win, which does not happen often.

Second my thought is never, NEVER EVER join an HOA!

1) that is why I will NEVER own a HOA home. They are all a bunch of little Nazi's.
2) I would demand to see where it says that in the HOA bylaws.
3) I would point out EVERY vehicle that has bumperstickers on it and if they arn't being fined, I'd file harasement charges against them.
4) I'd file charges that the "bylaws" are unconstituional.

They tried to pull other dumb shit with my dad at his house. He filed charges against them and they kept backing down offering consessions. Finally they dropped the charge.

My dad was on the board and they didn't do this crap, but the wannabee's harassed, slandered and lied to get themselves on the board and then started attacking all former members.

I live in t he Dallas area and they get pretty stupid at times. One of the reasons I will Not live in an HOA. But to answer the question they would play hell getting them off mine. They would be definitely be seeing my lawyer and when they came to tow it might find out I have a Springfield 1911 I carry! In my personnel yard I can open carry in the state of TX. Molon Abe

When we lived in Aurora, Colorado I served on our HOA board and over the years served in almost every position we had. We had more important things to worry about than stickers on vehicles. I would assume the rules for his HOA were originally written to prohibit advertising of businesses and large displays on a vehicle, not stickers.

The board president, if he or she had just stopped for a minute should have known the back lash that was coming for telling this Retired Marine he couldn't display USMC decals.

I think part of the problem is that the HOA started trying to enforce the letter of the law and not the intent of the law. Whta they don't want is the vehicle that has been wrapped in advertising being used in the neighborhood. If they are going to make this man remove his stickers supporting the Marine Corps then everyone that has a sticker advertising or supportin their organization needs to have it removed. That should also include the lilcense plate frames and the stickers dealers put on cars when they sell them.

I was recently "stopped" (getting out of my car) at the housing I live in by one of the security people. He called me over and asked me to remove my "support pride" stickers off of my car. He said that someone in the housing was offended by the "rainbow", and that it is causing some issues with my neighbors. I don't talk to my neighbors, in fact I have never met them accept to say hello in passing. The first thing I told the security guy was if their offended they can say it to me directly, second I will not suppress my support because someone is offended. I'm not screaming it at the top of my lungs. He had the nerve to ask me if I was gay straight out! I laughed and told him "it's not your place to ask and if I was would it matter? How about dealing with the neighbors that party till 2 am instead of worrying about me offending them. I'm hurting no one with a sticker, with my support. Get back in your rent a cop car and go do what you're paid too, making sure the neighborhood is safe!!! It should be their ignorance you respond to not my sticker"
most likely my neighbors probably think I am gay because of the stickers, won't they be shocked when my husband returns from deployment??? I saw it as some spouse with nothing better to do but b$&@$.

Read the article and I can believe the HOA would have some type of clause against bumber stickers, I almost bought a doplex that had a book of rules from the HOA. However it seems they attacked the Marine because of his sticker and not the rest of the community, it seems some liberal had a problem with it. Im glad to hear he was alloweed to keep the sticker.
