Only problem? he went on facebook and in an official capacity made statements that called into question his ability to enforce the law impartially.

http://www.rawstory.com/2015/09/north-carolina-police-chief-forced-to-resign-after-shoot-first-anti-black-lives-matter-rant/

North Carolina police chief forced to resign after ‘shoot first’ anti-Black Lives Matter rant

The police chief of Surf City, North Carolina was abruptly forced into retirement on Tuesday after an emergency meeting with city commissioners regarding an angry Facebook rant the chief posted about the Black Lives Matter movement.

Thu, 17 Sep 2015 16:48:26 -0400 North Carolina police chief forced to resign after ‘shoot first’ anti-Black Lives Matter rant https://www.rallypoint.com/answers/north-carolina-police-chief-forced-to-resign-after-shoot-first-anti-black-lives-matter-rant

So this Chief fell hook, line and sinker for the narrative in some corners that there is a War on Cops and that the Black Lives Matter movement is a cause of that. Forced resignation was the right move.. I sympathize with the police regarding some of the recent targeting. They need to be vigilant and they need to protect themselves without a doubt. That cannot turn into a "shoot first" policy toward any citizen. Not all blacks are members of BLM and even many that are would not condone the violence. Clearly some do.

Our police should be above reproach, especially the leadership. The police deserve our support for the job they do every day. Positions with the type of authority they have need to have good oversight and exercise good judgment and remember who they are there to protect and to serve. Cpl Jeff N. Instread they took the most expedient out. PFC Michael Korach Tue, 24 Oct 2017 16:58:40 -0400 2017-10-24T16:58:40-04:00 2015-09-17T16:48:26-04:00
