No I am claustrophobic and get really upset even at the thought of being enclosed in a place I can't get out. Collapsed coal mines, sunken submarines, trapped in rubble, buried alive in an old Egyptian tomb,, etc are things I do not like to contemplate and seldom do.

deployed for 4 weeks on one, a Fast attack... ... worked on Insertions , extractions and Over the horizon navigation... I survived...

Probably not, that's why I didn't join up with my sea fairing brothers. If I were Navy I think I would prefer a Destroyer or Aircraft Carrier.

Yes, I am certain I could. Actually you aren't chosen, you volunteer pass mental and physical exams, then sent to submarine school, then after about one year of qualification processed(successful), you are awarded your dolphins. SFC George Smith, you were living good on a SSN, most of my experience with Jarheads was transportation services during Vietnam.

Before I got out I went on a "liberty cruise" to Austrailia and Guadalcanal aboard the USS Racine, an LST. I about lost it when the engines quit for a while and they said "Stand by for heavy rolls!!". No way in hell would I be able to do sub duty.

Much like the day walkers in the Army, there are night walkers. So I must say their are that there are land walkers and then there are those who don't need land. I know for a fact that there is a difference between those who serve in water and on land. I expect that most who serve on land are not real keen on being under water for extended periods of time, nor out there where land is not seen for days. I simply cannot see myself doing it! I can imagine that there are those who cannot see themselves above the earth in my helicopter either. I can honestly say I would to even want to see if I can do it after walking thru the USS Alabama in Mobile.
