No U.S. Flag at UC-Irvine struck down - Are our colleges becoming breeding grounds for anti-American opinion?

It shames me to read that students at one California university actually tried to ban the display of the US Flag on campus, saying it represented imperialism, colonialization, and hate speech. Today, our colleges (in general) are breading grounds for anti-American opinion. They debate the merits of ISIS, call for the destruction of Israel, and embrace Communism and socialism to replace our grand Republic. Have they gone too far? If you are a student, or were one, what have you seen or heard? Are our colleges becoming our demise?

SFC Lehnhardt, all these 'over educated', dumbass, douchebag college students want to bash America and bitch about this, that and every thing else under the sun they view as going against their beliefs. But in the end they want the perks that go along with living in this great country and would scream and cry if they were forced to leave.

The university student government wanted to remove all flags from one room in campus, not the whole thing. Schools have not gone too far. Schools are not going to be our demise. As a note, history puts a bad connotation with socialism and communism, but on theory, there is nothing wrong with them. We have found in practice they don't work as well though.

I'd be careful the way you word some of your questions. If I wasn't more aware of what you meant, it would be very easy to take what you are asking interpreted as "higher education/more intelligent youth is going to be our demise."

As far as studying various other points of view I leave you a quote that I find appropriate:

Just like one Soldier does one bag thing - we all get lumped into. Every college I have been to and or worked at is almost 90% pro-military still. There is at least 7,021 colleges (with a lot having multiple campuses) - I am sure there are ones that are just as crazy as scientology.

I think most college professors teach anti America and a lot of reads and agrees with the Communist Manifesto that is what's wrong with the younger generation today no respect for their country no honor it's a shame and I know that we can do better than that

I read Allen West's column on this subject about professors supporting this stupidity. It's maddening. Are they really describing our flag - Old Glory - as a symbol of racism? Thank God Allen West is speaking out against this. I'm sure there are others, but I like what West has to say:

The leftists understand this better than most. While there are many colleges that are very patriotic many of the larger ones (and many ivy league schoiols) are leaning further and further left.

This is not just a problem with the schools it is a problem with parents who don't know and/or inculcate their childrens minds with our history, our contributions and our sacrifices to make the world a more free and safe place. Not all of our efforts have been successful or perfect but I would challenge anyone to point to a better example in modern history than us.

Most of the students are not worldly enough, educated enough or experienced enough to even know what they are supporting on the left. It just sounds cool to them to be anti-establishment.

The college campus has been a breeding ground for liberalism and anti American opinions since the 60s starting with the Viet Nam War. The professors have been indoctrinating our young with their views and promoting socialist ideas and beliefs for decades.

I attended a private liberal arts college so yeah, I pretty much spent four years listening to extremely left leaning professors do their best to indoctrinate their students. I had one professor, an unabashed liberal democrat, who invited our entire class to his house on election night in 1992 to celebrate Bill Clinton's "historic" victory. Needless to say, I chose not to attend the party.

This from the UCI administration -

"We hold the value of intellectual inquiry and the free and rigorous exchange of ideas as bedrock values of institutions of higher education. And yet, we are constantly reminded that those values we cherish are in part, guaranteed by the sacrifices made and the struggles waged to secure the freedom and democracy that the flag symbolizes. UCI never takes that for granted."

The Chancellor voiced much the same sentiment.

I think it important to keep in mind that the opinions of 6 students - who have every right to hold those opinions (whether we like them or not) - do not represent the vast majority of the student body nor the administration of the school. They made their statement and the school has responded accordingly.

When stereotyping and lumping groups together begin I often have the same question come to mind. "Why is it when someone does something illegal, immoral or just plain stupid normally the first words presented by the media read...a former Soldier, an ex-Marine (their words, not mine), an Iraq or Vietnam vet, etc... " Strictly rhetorical question - I know the answer...

Maybe they are maybe they aren't, but as men and women in the profession of arms, it doesn't matter. "Freedom" is the ability to do otherwise, and so if we are in favor of freedom, then you can't be all that upset when someone exercises that freedom, even if that exercise runs counter to our deeply held positions.

Should it really be a surprise that people who have never even contemplated wearing a uniform think differently than we do? You know what that actually means? It means we've done our job and we have preserved the right to do "otherwise".

cali, sounds about right almost as bad as ny, the problem here is there are laws that state desicration of the us flag is punishable, but because the freedom of speech loophole, they get away with it, its only a matter of time socialism or communism, then the next civil war and the next world war, we have to clean up this country, obey the laws, ower inaleighnabale rights have also responsibilty, i find it interesting that concelled carry permit are on an up swing, saw a post on fb yesterday about libs wanting to come into our homes to remove our weapons, well that will be cold day in hell and the individule trying to do it well they'll need 6 feet of dirt, the smartest people on earth cant solve even the simplest of problems we have, so they come to this, we free'd europe twice, came to frances aid in vietnam, went to s korea to save thier asses, still unresolved, maybe we should start thinking isoaltionism again, just a thought i'm getting tired of how the us is treated even in our own country, if you dont like then just pack up and leave, or get a job, or support your family, do something other than destroy and complain, off my soap box
