Heading to BLC in December. Any advice from someone who has gone under the new curriculum that was presented in 2018? I was told there is no more land nav OR stx lanes?

No more Land Nav...? Guess everyone relies on batteries and no schoolhouse training these days - good call Big Army! As a former software QA whomever made that call - by advancing these troops, hoping their home units are doing their jobs of proper training and relying solely on technology - just asinine! Why send them to school at all if their units do so well, ask yourself that one!?!?! Solely based on said statements by poster mind you... Where is the logic is my question?

WLC was a joke when I went. It felt so rushed and I did not learn anything expect CLT F, which I already knew. We had land nav, and that was probably the best part. Other than that is was death by power point. I can't speak for the new BLC and let alone DLC(formally SSD). Sometimes the Army changes things not for the better. I still don't believe that the Online course do not teach you anything. Back when SSD came out, I spent a full Day from 0600 - 2100 doing that dam thing. Most of the stuff I knew as it was common sense, the other stuff was well useless at the time.

SFC Steven Borders Steven, get used to the death by Power-Point. As you progress through your career, that’s all it becomes! It’s how well you can deduce and can convey that will make you good... Reducing the schooling costs seems to be the way of the future for the Army with online - but there are something’s that simply need to be taught and honed in the field, PERIOD! Just my thoughts though.

I am a current BLC instructor. Practice PRT and D&C before you come. We no longer do a week of practice. You will receive a combat speed demo on day 2 and testing will be day 3-6. D&C will be rested day 6. As far as the essays you will receive a block of instruction on military writing. The essays are borderline impossible to fail do to the fact that this is your first final military writing training so the grading curve is in your favor to pass.

I appreciate the response SSG. I haven't done PRT or D&C in almost four years now. I will start practicing on my own now.

there is still land nav it's just revamped now it's part of the stt portion of the school you'll be in small groups and each person will get one point then you'll guide your group to that point and conduct a class on a portion of land nav and the process will repeat until everyone has gone at least that's what is being done at the nco acadamy on my post. and now there are 5 essays that you do because there's an issue with people in the army not knowing how to write and get their points across, the essays increase in length as the course proceeds also they have also put more emphasis on the unit to train soldiers in basic soldiering task like DNC and pt so their instruction isn't as thorough now. best thing to do is practice now so you'll be prepared when you go.

There is no more land Nav or STX in the new BLC curriculum. You will only be away from the class room for PRT and D&C
