SCPO Donald Johnson, I am also sorry to hear of your loss. Sgt Aaron Kennedy is correct, and you can do the entire procedure online if you have, or if you know someone, with a bit of computer savvy. I am currently going through the same procedure. It takes a while to get the records, about 6 to 8 weeks is average, but as long as it is not an emergency it shouldn't matter. Most importantly you will get your requested information.

I did this for my grandfather who was a WWII Veteran. I took a copy of my dad's birth certificate, a record from vital statistics, grandfathers death certificate, discharge paperwork and filled out paperwork and mailed it to the US Department of Veteran Affairs in DC. I would speak with a VA rep on what paperwork needs to be filled out for the request. I did mine in 2011 and don't remember which forms or the name of the paperwork.

Yes there is. You might have to go an Air Force base & see the customer service folks to have them pull a RIP on her listing all her awards. You'll need proper documentation so call first to see what u need

Try getting her records from Veterans Affairs and check with her old unit's Military Personnel Flight.

I would give the Randolph AFB folks a call again and explain to them what is going on. What you need is her Enlisted Data Verification Record (DVR), EPRs, and Awards and Decoration Information. Pretty sure all the AFPC folks need is her SSN...and they can pull everything up on her...if you get the right person. That is the hard part. Some will say they can't do it...been through those hoops. Good luck.

SCPO Donald Johnson, after you get her DD-214, go line and print a copy of an SF-180 form. Check the things you want. It will take anywhere from six months to a year, but you will receive what you checked off. I sent in for my dad's, but they burned the fire in St. Louis.

I used to work in Personnel... You know, back in the dark ages when I was still young. I'm assuming that your wife retired. In that case, you will have to contact the Personnel records center in St. Louis. You could also contact her reserve unit, to see if they could direct you better.
