My landlord wants a copy of my orders. Does he get them?

My landlord wants a copy of my orders overseas. I'm not sure why though. Our lease expires at the end of this month which is when im leaving the apartment so im not breaking the rental agreement or anything. There's a lot of personal info on my orders. His wife is the one that asked me, I haven't had any contact with him yet. Hes a reservist O5 so I kinda trust him but you should never trust anyone completely. The blurb on the first page says to only forward to those with a need-to-know. Thanks.

As a landlord myself. The only reason he should need orders is if you where using the service member civil relief act to break the lease due to military service.

I don't understand the reason for your landlord's request. If you're not breaking the lease what difference does it make where you are going after your lease expires. Could it possibly be that you did not give sufficient time period advance move out notification to landlord or something like that and you could be penalized legally/financially for not making a timely notification prior to move out at lease expiration time?
It doesn't matter if he is a military officer reservist as far a "trusting" him or not goes The only thing that matters is whatever the law states regarding these matters.
I would not give him a copy unless a military legal assistance officer (lawyer) tells you that you are required by law to do it to avoid any legal/ financial penalties on you I would immediately contact the nearest U.S. military legal assistance office for advice/guidance (it doesn't matter what Branch of Service)

As long as your not using a deployment to break lease and you are leaving at the end of your lease he is not required to get them. And you can black out SSN

If your lease is up at the same time as your PCS there is no need to prove why you are moving. Thank you for your service.

Maybe. Did your lease have an automatic rollover to month to month and if so did you provide the required notice of intent to vacate. If it rolls over and you didn’t give appropriate notice the military clause in your lease might be the only way to avoid paying an additional months rent.

Unless you’re somehow violating your lease perhaps by not giving enough notice of moving out then he and his wife have no reason or need to see your orders.

Just say due to OPSEC he can’t see them. If he’s reserves he should get that

It boils down to this: Just ask him why he'd like to see those orders. He may have the best of intentions or not but until you ask that this is all just speculation and assumption. You know the problem with assuming, yes?

For Navy Reserves, there should be/used to be an option in NROWS where you can black out PII. It might be where you print the orders, there's an option. I did that for my civilian job when they required it. Don't know if it got lost in recent updates, but it did used to be there. That may not help the rest of the concerns you have, but just giving you some options. Best of luck and blessings.

Let's go full rational here and let me suggest that you provide him with a memorandum from your Commander certifying that you are deploying in support of an Congressionally recognized operation on MONTH DD, YYYY, and all problems should be resolved without risk of disclosing PII, or violation OPSEC.

They do not need to know. If you are not breaking the lease or contract, and fulfilling your obligation, then you do not need to show your orders. Sounds like the female is just being nosey...
