Was this a medical examiner, VA examiner, or military doctor? What was the reason for the visit? Assuming we're talking about the VA, the doctor can diagnosis and perform the evaluation, but the VA regional office is the one that approves or denies the claim. The unfortunate thing is that what the doctor told you could very well be different than what your claim file says. SPC Paul Jennings, J.D. PTSD affects everyone differently. For some people it is crippling and affects their daily life. For others they experience mild annoyance in crowds or get little tense at times. PTSD is also not necessarily a permanent condition. Most people will get better and the VA can later on downgrade your rating. So will you get a rating for PTSD? It depends on how you are affected and there are very clear cut guidelines that determine how much you are entitled to.
