My discharge papers show I am "RE-3" and would need a waiver to go back in. Can anyone explain how that would work?

Basically you would explain why you got the RE3 in the first place, what you've done to correct it, and what you are doing to better yourself in the civilian world. The recruiter submits your request to the recruiting command, and decide if you get it or not.

You need to find a recruiter who will attempt to process an RE-3 waiver.
I'm not trying to be harsh, nor do I mean to insult you, but as I was a recruiter, these are the cold hard facts.

I suggest you find the newest recruiter at a station, because a seasoned recruiter will not touch you with a 10' pole. You are just too much work.

No matter what your story is, the recruiter has to take you at your word, do the paperwork for a waiver and hope you were telling the whole truth. Because when it comes back that the story is different, you walk away, but the recruiter will pay for it. (we had a rock of disgrace for the worst applicant of the month award)

Waivers are rationed. I don't think waivers are even allowed right now, so if that's the case your battle is over before it begins. If waivers are allowed you are facing the following hurtles and believe me, a seasoned recruiter just flat wont bother with them :

You are RE-3. The only thing worse is RE-4.
You are Prior service. Um... nope, recruiters HATE PRIOR SERVICE.
You were NG, I cant lol hard enough thinking what an AD recruiter would say to you walking in, the only group that would LOL harder is if you walked into the USMC recruiters.
You need a waiver, again, its likely there are no waivers now.
Plan on doing everything on your own, the recruiters may tell you the forms and give some guidance, but again, you need to find the newest recruiter who is hungry for a contract no matter how small the outlook.

BTW, there is no such thing as SPC (P).

What exactly is a re3 code and what do you get it for? I never had one so I'm just wondering.

You can get back in. I had a Re3, just re enlisted this April. I'm already almost finished with my new mos training. Just don't give up if it's what you really want.

Need more information, but yes generally an RE3 requires a waiver. But, if it was for misconduct, no waiver will be processed.

I received Seperation pay in 1995 that way I have An RE3
