How does this make you feel as an American? How does the outburst of "Hatred and Racial Tension" make you feel toward planned separation from the Military and entrance into a career in Law Enforcement?

I posted a reply RIP to a news post. What happened next truly bothered me. So much so, that I performed a screen shot. A nincompoop (has to be) posted a picture of a police officer being shot and then stated Rot in Pieces. This is tragic. Hundreds of posts on Facebook saying things along the lines of "Bet they can't breathe now" or "F#ck the Police".

Wow, CMSgt James Nolan, just wow. Your screen shot demonstrates to me that the anger on the side of folks who believe they have been mistreated by the police is extremely powerful.

I agree that we should be respectful towards police. To me, anything other than being respectful is foolish and asking for trouble. I guess not everybody thinks like me.

There's a difference in protesting the actions of some bad cops, and that kind of bullcrap. I'm glad, at least, that the families of Eric Garner and Michael Brown, plus loudmouth Sharpton, are speaking out against the assassination of two police officers.

I believe I have been discriminated against by police on more than one occasion, but still I respect the uniform. I pray for the good cops out there making the good stops. Hate begets hate and nothing changes. I am against this kind of outrage, shooting police officers is not going to get anyone ahead or make the situation better.

I've already had this conversation in a few other places. One issue is the over-criminalization of poverty. The police have the responsibility of enforcing laws and policy. When those laws and policies are not just or equitable, then the police become the bad guys rather than the politicians who wrote the laws at the request of a special interest or the executives that set policy for the same reason.
In one sense, I compare it to everything we did wrong in our efforts to "win the hearts and minds". Failed policies of the occupations that are coming home to roost in our own back yards.
The Police are only soldiers following orders that never should have been issued.

You want to fix this, take an informed interest in the politics of your community. Where you once led troops, now lead people.

Traffic news, but I'm fearful that it is only the beginning. There seems to be an impending mood of class/race warfare in our current society. I pray that outright civil war will be avoided but there seem to be elements within our society that ate doing everything in their power to bring it about.

CMSgt James Nolan I am taken aback that anyone would feel that post was justified. Officers Wenjian Liu and Rafael Ramos, were working overtime in an area of Brooklyn which is known to be violent. So while protecting the public, eating lunch, they are assassinated and WOODFORD J METCALFE believes that appropriate?

As a career LEO, I get it, people hate us because we represent boundaries and when the perception (based on fact or myth) surrounds what we do and who we are which relates we indiscriminately kill a person of specific race, sex, or ethnic origin that creates even more issues. When out of control protesters chant for the killing of cops and then two are murdered, that has stepped beyond the boundaries.

If the Attorney General investigating Al Sharpton for inciting the killing of two police officers? Are our National leaders on the podium conducting a press conference to address this issue?

No wonder we, as a country, appear weak to terrorists and other potential enemies.

This is truly a sad day. I am disturbed but I am not surprised. Hatred is eating away at the souls of those who cannot forgive. They are so consumed by hatred that they are blind to see and politics are just adding to the already complex situation. Could it have been prevented if the Mayor of NY would not have encouraged protests and turned his back on the police in his city? Will he be banned at the funerals as the union told him before this incident that he was not welcomed. They turned their backs on him as he arrived. Tell the families what you want but if you did not support them before the shooting why would they believe you now? It is just politics to these people and that disgusts me. I wish everyone would just wake up and see that they are destroying themselves and those around them.

I mourn next to the families of the fallen officers in NY and the one in FL. I pray that they do not have any brothers and sisters joining them anytime soon.

Wow, Top, I am a former SSG, MP, and that was MY unit in Ferguson standing with their hands tied, while animals rioted, looted, and burned down buildings. I spent 6 yrs. in law enforcement, and had enough. To other MPs, I say think long and hard, as the civilian population is much different than you are used to. The pay is not enough, and the rules are much different. I am saddened by late happenings in Missouri and New York. I pray for peace everywhere. I will not discuss race relations, but police officers simply enforce the laws. If you are being questioned or detained, don't resist. Better yet, obey the law, and chances are, you will have no negative contact with police. Out.

I have been pulled over for a dubious reason in the Midwest, once unlawfully searched in the East coast (Justice prevailed on that one). In 2005, I was a passenger when my friend was pulled over and was asked "how did you afford this car (Hummer H2)?" In all instances, I admit I got angry but honestly, it's never a good mojo to wish someone to die. What good is it to prove a stereotype. It hurts like hell facing discrimination but I have the fear of God who created us all equal.

How does this make me feel?

It validates the fact that I never read public comments on news-blog websites, YouTube, public Facebook fan pages, or other unmoderated places. The average human being feels like the internet gives them a license to spew their horse crap all over the place and that we, the people, will absolutely LOVE to hear what they have to say.

I mean, seriously. Have you seen some of the crap on YouTube comments? These are grown adults acting like severely emotionally disturbed toddlers.

What can you expect when Obama and Holder verbally encouraged hating the police during a press conference?

For those who do not stay up on violence waged against our law enforcement (I envy you), in the last few days, there were more:
Tarpon Springs, FL. Police Officer dispatched to a noise complaint. Executed, suspect at large.

St Louis, MO area (suburb-and close to Ferguson), Police Officer at some kind of disturbance, encounters two male subjects, one pulls a gun on the Officer, Officer shoots and kills one, second is at large.

Also St Louis, MO area, off duty Police Officer (believed to have been known/recognized as P.O.) was passenger in vehicle, when another pulls up beside and opens fire. Transported, in vehicle to ER, died at hospital.

Tough time to be a Police Officer.
