Interesting theory, but why wouldn't the US report it as a potential terrorist threat if this was in fact true.

Just enough possibility of being true (a tiny bit, in my opinion) to be intriguing. I think the MH370 is on the bottom of the ocean somewhere ... and not because the U.S. Navy shot it out of the sky, but because it fell out of the sky when it ran out of fuel.
