I’m a Tech in the Guard though and it’s a pretty sweet gig. The slot I work in full time is actually a 92A slot but here they open it to 15 and 92 series because it’s at an aviation support facility. I’m the lowest paid guy on the compound but it’s still better money than anywhere else around here. The benefits are head and shoulders above anywhere else too. You also don’t have to worry about employers getting shady about your military commitments.Response by SSG Private RallyPoint Member made Apr 16 at 2018 5:10 PM2018-04-16T17:10:27-04:002018-04-16T17:10:27-04:00CW5 Jack Cardwell3549140<div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>Partly depends on MOS. ARMY Reserve can be ation wide progression. Guard you progress within your state. Moving to another state possible but odds are against you. As a dual status Guardsman in most of the positions you are required to wear your military uniform.Response by CW5 Jack Cardwell made Apr 16 at 2018 5:16 PM2018-04-16T17:16:10-04:002018-04-16T17:16:10-04:00SSG Private RallyPoint Member3549512<div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>I was a miltech, not a bad job but the only problem is your career is tied to your reserve status. Lose your reserve status and you lose your career.Response by SSG Private RallyPoint Member made Apr 16 at 2018 7:19 PM2018-04-16T19:19:13-04:002018-04-16T19:19:13-04:00COL Private RallyPoint Member3549739<div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>Two different components. Both amount to the same- you make it what you make out of it. The Guard has been told to reduce the dual status techs for a while so if they lose the fight- and they have been, expect that to be a different set of variables.Response by COL Private RallyPoint Member made Apr 16 at 2018 8:55 PM2018-04-16T20:55:42-04:002018-04-16T20:55:42-04:00LTC Private RallyPoint Member3550546<div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>Lots of factors involved. <br />It's stated above that the guard will have fewer mil tech's, I see that as a positive. They are making those positions civilian and your job will no longer be tied to your reserve service.Response by LTC Private RallyPoint Member made Apr 17 at 2018 6:52 AM2018-04-17T06:52:06-04:002018-04-17T06:52:06-04:00SSG Private RallyPoint Member3551871<div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>Great job for a young soldier, once you gain experience and max out your WG level 5, it becomes a dead end job. You can make much more money in the civilian life at that point. As the only raises will be from what the Pentagon gives you. The last 6 years had been 1 percent give or take a few additional points.Response by SSG Private RallyPoint Member made Apr 17 at 2018 1:05 PM2018-04-17T13:05:04-04:002018-04-17T13:05:04-04:00COL Ardis Ferguson3706823<div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>The Guard’s Miltechs currently have a bit better payscale, the other piece is the Reserve’s military structure is better, so while you may be a lower WG, your progression throuh the ranks in your unit is better. The Army Reserve is working to get their WG and GS structure upgraded. The MilTech program is dual status, and there is some ability to move from one to another. USAJobs has the advertised positions. It’s a great time to get into a MilTech positionResponse by COL Ardis Ferguson made Jun 12 at 2018 9:25 PM2018-06-12T21:25:05-04:002018-06-12T21:25:05-04:002018-04-16T17:02:25-04:00
