Military service survey https://www.rallypoint.com/answers/military-service-survey

Lately I have seen posts regarding the pros and cons of military service and/or continued military service. I think the cons are pretty obvious (at least to those of us who have been in a while), but what are your reasons for continuing military service? Here's the top of my list:

1) The military is the organization that has come closest to achieving Dr. Martin L. King's dream of being judged by your character than by the color of your skin. Our senior promotion system is based on a few pieces of paper; there is no "good old boys club". We have leaders from all walks of life and ethnic backgrounds. Some came from other countries and spoke different languages. What other organization can say the same?

2) You can't really get laid off. You do your job and you collect your paycheck (OK, so sometimes it's not that simple. Long hours, late nights, early mornings, deployments, field time, etc.) However, in this uncertain job market it is nice knowing that I will get a regular check.

3) The medical/dental package is hard to beat. The retirement package is pretty good too.

For me the pros outweigh the cons and if given a time machine for a "do over" I would choose military service again. What do you think?
